Have I told you about my timeshare?

The reason I can go on holidays every year is not because I have lost of money. I could not go to those wonderful places if it wasn´t because I bought a timeshare in Aruba over 20 years ago. A timeshare means that you buy a week at a place. Then it was $7000 paid in 5 years. Not much, as it was like paying another normal bill. Then, every year, there´s a maintenance fee that is bigger every year. The fee includes having towels, a clean beautiful swimming pool, a good kitchen and enough room for 4 people. In this moment that fee is around $800 for the week and I think that $200 for each person for a week is wonderful. For a small amount a year I belong to a place where I can exchange my week for one elsewhere. I have gone from Argentina to Spain, from Mexico to the US and could even go to China if I had the money for the fare. In 6 more weeks I will go to Aruba for 2 weeks with my family. I had to buy some added getaways as my timeshare is for 4 people and we are going to be five. Do you have a timeshare?

Yes you have told me about it I remember Marguicha. No I do not have a timeshare though once I nearly did. It was in Tahoe, NV.

The best thing is that you can exchange it and go elsewhere every year.

@TiarasOceanView Now that the children are young, beaches are best. But I can also go to big cities. I went to Buenos Aires a couple of years ago and invited Leticia.

No, but my brother has two. One is in St. Martin and the other in Florida. We looked at one once, but didn't see the need. Enjoy your vacation in Aruba.

Thank you. We went to St. Martin last year. I have also gone to Disney in Florida with the other daughter several years ago. I used the exchange then.

@DianneN since I bought this timeshare, we can have good lodgings that we could not pay for before.

No. There was a fraud in the news one year and so I have my qualms about such things. Enjoy!

@marguicha ......Yes, this one was in the news and everyone started selling theirs off after that. Hearing of bad experiences like that make people wary. Glad yours is legit and that you are enjoying it.

Maybe one of the timeshares was a scam (as in anything). But I bought mine over 20 years now.

When I was younger, renting an apartment for a week of vacations was a very common choice. You have to take care of the house, unlike a hotel room, but it's comfortable as you can save money cooking your own food, you can wash your clothes if a washing machine is available... it can be a good deal after all.

In Aruba there is a maid´s service that cleans everything every day except for dishes. There are washing machines with tokens and also a washing service should you need one. When I go there I take a small amount of clothes, enough underwear and 2 bathing suits. That´s all. As we are going with children, we will cook. But we will cook easy food that the children like. We are going for 2 weeks now.

@sabtraversa It is not worth it to go for only one week. It´s too far away and air tickets are expensive.

The weather is perfect. It is not terrible hot and it has the right humidity to feel it as a body cream.

I have been t the US several times. For some years close friends lived in Miami so we stayed with them for some days and then rented a car to travel east and west, north and south.
