My husband doesn't walk very well (he's 86), and has a mobility scooter. He uses a track to get to our local shop for a paper most mornings. This track is for pedestrians, cyclists and mobility scooters. There is a right-angled bend on the track and it's impossible to see if anything is coming, so my husband always cuts his speed when he approaches it. This morning a young woman on a bicycle sailed round the bend and ran straight into him, causing him to end up in the hedge. She had a child in a carrier on the back of the bike, but luckily no-one was hurt, and the woman was most apologetic. She helped my husband to extricate the scooter from the hedge, and fortunately there was no damage to it. When he got home he told me about it and quipped "I thought my days of being ambushed by young women were over!"

@rebelann Well I did smile when he said that, but I didn't think the incident itself was funny - all of those involved could have been hurt.

Yes, it was very lucky no-one was injured, and that he could laugh about it afterwards.

I'm glad that she stopped and helped him. Aren't bicycles required to ride on the road, they are here.

@Juliaacv Bikes aren't allowed on the regular footpaths alongside roads, but this is more a general purpose track.

Glad to hear that he's ok. That's why, when iI'm on my bike, I slow down for blind curves and corners.

@teamfreak16 It's only common sense if it's a blind corner, isn't it? That young woman obviously hadn't got much common sense.

@xFiacre Not much chance of that, but I expect she feels quite badly about the incident, so it might help if she realised that he would make a joke of it.
