~Update On Josiah's Appointment~

Hey everyone. I think that was the longest appointment any of my children have ever had. So...here is the update. Josiah does not need surgery at this time. The fluid is on the outside of his brain-not inside of it so it's not causing any pressure on his brain. His head is growing rapidly though and they don't know what the cause of that is. They are going to do another scan in August to see if they are missing the cause of the growth somehow. Now, the shape of his head they are concerned with too. He is going to go to therapy so they can teach him to lay on the other side of his head and they do want him to wear a helmet to correct it as well. He has favored the one side of his head since he was in the womb which is why his head isn't shaped correctly. So...we still don't know what is causing the growth of his head-hopefully it's nothing too serious though. Thanks for praying everyone! I took the picture of Josiah and I at his appointment.

When you said they don't know the cause I had to investigate..that is just how I am. it could be many or none of these things on this page I found..what surgery were they going to possibly do? To release fluid? That is a nice photo of you both. Prayers up.

@Tiarasoceanview The neurosurgeon did say he believes Josiah has the benign macrocephaly but they wanted to make sure by testing again in August to make sure that's the only reason for his head growing so fast. Yes they were thinking he might need surgery to release some fluid. Thank you!

@TiarasOceanView Yeah I couldn't remember the fancy words he used until you posted that, then I realized that's what he mentioned. Hopefully the next scan will give conclusive answers either way.

@LovingMyBabies Oh okay then..it was just that I did not see a mention of that condition in your discussion so just wanted to see if that might be it. Yes Joshiah will have a scan in August thats good. I figured it was to drain fluid.. Good it is benign praise God!! Welcome and thanks

I've been waiting for this update all day! You'd think that fluid outside of the brain would still cause pressure on it anyway as it is still inside the skull. Glad to hear that he doesn't need surgery right now. That is good news at least. I wonder what is causing his head to grow so quickly though. That is kind of scary that the neurosurgeon didn't have any ideas on it.

@NJChicaa I thought so too but I don't know. Thanks, I'm glad he doesn't need the surgery now too. That is where the concern comes in...if it's not the fluid causing it-what is it? Yes it is alarming to me that he didn't know what's wrong.

@NJChicaa I would have thought that too. No they didn't say anything about genetic testing. They acted like I was more concerned than I should be but it's my baby! And I don't have conclusive answers.

@LovingMyBabies You'd think they'd at least want to drain the fluid? Did they talk about doing genetic testing?

That is good news he don't need surgery I hope they find the reason of the growth and get it taken care of right away. When will the helmet come into it all? Nice picture of you and Josiah.

@Gardengerty Yes they explained as much as they could since the growth is still a mystery to them as well.

I'm glad he doesn't need surgery and another scan will tell more. I knew a girl who wore a helmet, and she is just fine now. He is so darn cute!
