Introducing a new dog to old dogs

Yesterday my boyfriend and I adopted a dog together. The older dog at home was completely okay with it, she smelled the new dog and was okay with her after like sat with her and everything. However the younger dog was okay with her at the shelter then when we got home he keeps getting in her face and barking and showing teeth but not biting. Sometimes he'd snap but still wouldn't bite her and she just ignores him. Sometimes he'll be okay and other times he just randomly gets in her face. He's doing way better today than yesterday but did run away from her and then run at her earlier. Do any of you know what this most likely means and how to better get him comfortable with this new dog?

I think they just need some time getting used to each other.

The new dog is looking for some interaction with your older dog @skydream. What is the age difference? Depending on the ages, that can make a difference. Get them to play together using toys; whether a rope or ball.

@skydream Yep, the new dog wants play interaction. As a dog gets older, they don't want to play as much and it frustrates a younger dog.

The 2 dogs that were here first are a little over a year and around 10 the new dog is 7. The age difference could be why he's doing that to her? Thanks for the advice!

I have no tips what to do about this, but hope that it will not continue. Maybe it is just a territorial thing..maybe he is just trying to establish that, as animals do Nice that you got a new dog from the shelter though so kind of you. I really hope someone has some idea about that..and I hope they will be fine together..I am sure they will be after a while.

I think you're right. He still has been getting in her face today but way less barking and he seems to be a little more comfortable around her today. Thank you (: Thanks!

It takes some time for them to get along very well but I think they are still adjusting to each other this days but later on things will become okay.

I don't have any experience when it comes to this. But maybe with time it will get used to the other dog

Gee, I wish that I could offer some advice but I really don't know. Could he trying to be claiming some territory??

That would make sense. I thought it might have been because it was a new dog coming into his home but I'm not sure.
