Today since some places are not safe, so there is such an app called No-go Zone available. There are some versions and now the French version launches. It is sad to see that. As a Chinese couple who studied in Paris when they were young, they said at that time it was very safe in Paris and French people are very friendly and nice. Their best time was spent in France. Now they feel very sad to see that the crimes increase so much there.

Statistically, the global criminality in France reached its top in 2002 (it was at 68.93/1000 according to police stats, the previous top was in 1992 at more than 67/1000) and has decreased since (it was at 54.63/1000 in 2015). The nature of crimes has changed : there are less violent crimes, but more thefts like phone thefts, and it makes people feeling more insecure. What has raised is not the number of crimes (it decreases) but the feeling of insecurity.

I even heard that people can be robbed in the subway. This is hard to believe as here subway is a very safe place.

@youless We have police and cameras in the subway but we have also pickpockets. But, yes, the main problem is robbery in the past years, and foreigners are specifically targeted, especially Chinese, because many Chinese tourists have an important amount of cash with them instead of credit cards.

@youless If you go to Spain or Italy you may guess you will be robbed in the subway. France is safe compared to those two countries.

I have lived 30 years in the south of France and I have been to Paris so many times. It was a safe and happy place, except some areas where it was better not to go.

I agree. It was not better or worse 30 years ago than today. In the Northern and Eastern suburbs it is better to not be outdoors after 10 pm, but it is not that dangerous during the day. I have lived several years in Paris, I have never been robbed or burgled, while my previous house has been burgled twice last year when I was moving.

@topffer I never had a problem in Paris. All the big cities have dangerous areas where it's better not to be after dark. There are many places where I would never go in Milan after 7 pm.

@LadyDuck I would also not go in some neighborhoods here during the night. Make me think that I should spread rumors telling that my street is dangerous, I would perhaps have less people singing and screaming under my windows during the night.

It is sad to say so. They should deserve better because of their kindness.

It's sad to know that places that were safe in the past have got their crime figures sky rocket with time. Delhi, in India is no different. It is considered unsafe ,especially for women.

Nowhere seems safe anymore. Paris has always been a favorite place of ours to visit. Our older son studied there, too.

We occasionally get updates about which countries are safe to visit and which are not. It is sad when previously 'safe' countries become 'unsafe'.
