So, I mentioned yesterday I went to a bbq and there were many people there. I would say 30 or more, anyway, part of the festivities involved a pie judging contest. Anyway, one of the offerings and it may have been the winner was a vinegar pie. I saw the recipe a couple of times in an old fashioned cookbook, and I looked it up online when I got home. I think I am gonna make this..It doesn't look too hard, and the ingredients are few. Have you heard of or had vinegar pie..or what was the most unusual pie you have heard of?

Is the vinegar really prominent in the taste? What kind of taste does it have? I never heard of this one! Don't think I know any other unusual types but am interested in knowing about the vinegar pie just for curiosity sake as I can't bake well at all! I am going to look up recipes to see what is in them

You can't really taste it. It just kind of compliments the other ingredients. It reminds me of a chess pie if you have ever had one of those.

@snowy22315 Never heard of a chess pie either; My mom was an apple pie baker and only pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. But her apple pies were so good everybody that she gave them to sung praises for the pies!

I remember I made the vinegar pie years ago, I found the recipe in an old recipe book that I bought in a flea market. It's not my favorite, but it's not bad.

It seemed like there were several ways to make it some involving merangue and some not.

@snowy22315 For what I read in the book, the vinegar was used because in those times it was difficult to fine more expensive ingredients like lemon or apple cider.

I think I ever heard vinegar pie... Maybe because I watched variety shows, some shows create strange food to make people to have to stand to eat it to win.. Let's see if I remember strange pie... Um.... How about tea pie?
