Do you regularly delete your myLot posts?

I consider myself lucky to have a number of friends on this site. Many regularly read my posts and leave a response or comment. Some seem to comment on most of my posts which is nice. I know it isn’t necessary to reciprocate but I like to when I can. I now have two friends who seem to delete their posts as fast as they put them up. So when I go looking to post a comment on one of their posts, there is nothing to comment on. So I’m wondering what makes a member delete all, or virtually all, of their posts. I can’t remember deleting a post ever although I have deleted a comment once or twice when I thought I didn’t really want it going out into the ether. So, do you regularly delete posts? And if so, do you have a particular reason for doing so? The photo is of some spekky (spectacular) clouds which we saw yesterday as we neared the Pyrenees.

I never delete my posts and I would never do, I think it's pretty rude toward those who took the time to leave their comments. May be someone wants to check what I wrote and what they said. I do not know why some people delete the posts, may be to recycle the content.

@Mike197602 I found rude when a user re posted an old discussion, not the same word, but pretending that some people left misleading comments. I knew what I had commented, but as she has deleted everything it was impossible to show her that she was wrong. In this case it was rude.

I don't really think it is rude as my understanding is that people don't lose income when a post is deleted. I just wonder why they delete them at all.

I don't think it is rude. I always delete my discussions after a few days but only after I've got back to every single response and also I keep it up if there is some continued dialogue going on.

No I don't delete my posts. I have deleted one or two if it constantly got negative responses as I need positivity in my life right now. =)

Sometimes people 'read' something into a post that you hadn't intended and then they're like a dog with a bone and won't let go.

@JudyEv Some of mine date back over 10 years and are clearly now out of date, but I see no reason to remove them.

@Asylum I'm sure many older posts are out of date but I don't think it matters. They can still be interesting to read

I only deleted one to protect someone's identity. I don't know why anyone would choose to delete a discussion unless they have to free up storage space.

I'd sometimes like to 'vent' here but then I think about the consequences if it were to be read by the 'ventee' so then I change my mind and punch a hole in a wall instead.

I delete all my discussions after a while...for 2 reasons. 1, I get bored of them after a while. 2, I don't actually like reciprocal responsesI respond to what I find interesting and have no expectation of receiving a response in kind. As I mainly am a responder I did find my couple of discussions kept picking up those types of responses so decided to delete all my discussions and have kept on doing so It works for me although I know a lot won't see my reasoning

@JolietJake maybe. Just that I've had a few discussions that got 30-50 natural responses then went way over 100 PURELY because of the amount of responding I did. They weren't necessarily interested in my discussion topic it was just a response for a response and as I only had a couple of discussions up it made the numbers go beyond what I should have actually got purely from people interested in the topic...so I delete all discussions and will continue to do so

Absolutely not. And I go into mourning if Admin has to step in and delete one of my scribblings... It has happened on a couple of occasions. Otherwise, they remain, for posterity (!).

I think I'd be mortified if one of mine was deleted by admin. I think some rejoice in it and wear it as a badge of honour. Just how long is posterity exactly?

@JudyEv Posterity - for all my descendants, so a long time ;) I have had a jokes post deleted , a post where I was highlighting a problem or bug and I had to put up a screenshot , one that was deleted because a \ in the title broke myLot . And one I deleted myself as it had served a purpose, that being to highlight another issue related to some feature of myLot to Admin .
Posterity is a noun meaning "future generations." These people of the future could be your children and great-great grandchildren, or any people who are born after you.

I'm still relatively new to the site and didn't even know that you could delete posts. I don't always have something profound to say, but still am hopeful that some of my musings are worthwhile and have staying power. Using search keywords, I have found a few discussions on here from several years ago that have been useful and/or interesting for me. I never would have found those if the OP deleted them before my search... That alone would probably discourage ME from actively deleting anything.

Not many people delete posts as you might have worked out. I've only ever deleted a comment or two.
