I jumped off the slow boat

United States

Speed, we need, we love, we desire - speed! No not the illegal stuff you find on the street corners!!!! That's not where this is going. I just solved a minor issue with speed and I hope it's a permanent solution! When I got this computer about a years ago it was fast....it seems like day by day it got slower. The last few weeks it's almost going back instead of forward it's so slow. I have done things like defrag, deleting history, getting rid of old folders, whatever I could think of and know how to do! Nothing....this moring it was taking a good 5 minutes to load a post on myLot. So, I ventured into new territory and did something I was afraid to do. I had a few 'add-ons' (I use Firefox) such as Ebates and Swagbucks plus two others. I deactivated Ebates and Swagbucks and holy cow - I've been projected into space fast and furious! My speed has increased considerably - why didn't I know it was add-ons causing slow speed? I wonder if it is a fluke and within an hour I will be back on that slow boat....I sure hope not!!! The add-ons slow down the browser considerably. I have turned off all those that are not strictly necessary.

@LadyDuck If I want to buy using ebates I just go to the ebates site like I always did prior having that add-on.

I hope you keep your speed. It is so annoying waiting for the computer to move on. Those little add-ons can get you every time.

We took off all the add ons and its still going slow and we did all the defrag everything our supposed speed is 100 something a second its coming through here as a mere 6 or 8 a second. Its the company that is thwarting the speed this time as it always is doing and we are paying more for it also.

My only option is satellite internet so I deal with it unless it is something I can 'fix' I have no clue what my speed is.

Is it windows operated? If it is, make sure the windows are routinely updated, there are always bad things to be patched by windows itself. However, the windows should be genuine. A lot of people out there still prefer using pirated windows as it's a lot cheaper.
