Deleting Discussions + Fresh New Slate

United States
July 9, 2017 11:53am CST
I've seen a couple of members that I follow, delete their discussions.. perhaps to start a new slate. I currently have over 800+ discussions throughout my 7 years of myLot, it would be nice to have an easy "delete all" feature so I can start fresh over again. Do you delete your discussions? Do you revisit old discussions? Do you wish there was a "delete all" feature or a method to check multiple to delete quicker.

I have deleted a few of the really old ones that few people responded to, they were boring so why keep them, right?

I'd like to back track all the way back to when I first started. I am sure those discussions of mine are b-o-r-i-n-g. But it is a far journey to get down closer to 1 discussion... as I am right now 850+.

Yeah, I noticed that @infatuatedbby I tried to backtrack on your discussions but as you said it's a long journey.

@rebelann It's a very long journey. I don't know how long it'd take me just to go check. So I never have.. just keep adding discussions only

I delete the discussions I don't like anymore, I'm a perfectionist. There are some discussions I can't really delete, because they're all linked somehow. A post is worth a lot of time, not just the creation, but all the conversations that took place below it. I see how it would be unrespectful to delete all at once.

I don't want to delete all my posts per se, just maybe the ones that I wrote years ago when I didn't know about myLot much. I am sure I have violated the rules with one liners back then when it wasn't strict or rules were not enforced as much?

@sabtraversa Another member told me to press 'end' to get to my oldest post but I don't see that feature on my laptop keyboard.

@infatuatedbby Maybe what you need is a filtering feature that allows you to select old posts. I'm not sure about rules back then, I began being active last year.

Is there any negative reason why keeping old discussions around would affect a member in any way on this site? I have never deleted any of my old discussions, I find that there is no need to, and believe it or not, every now and then someone will go back and read those discussions and comment on them! So all the more reason to keep them active! haha But you're right, I know of at least two members here who have deleted all their discussions, even though I know they have been on this site for a long time.

I have always wanted to go back and reread what I wrote 7 years ago but getting there takes too long so I never have. I am sure 7 years ago I probably posted dumb things! And I'd sure wouldn't want it to stick with me forever.i know I have came across some like oh dear I wrote that? Yes I know a couple also!

@infatuatedbby But the big question is...even if you delete those old discussions, are they really gone forever? Nothing we do online ever really disappears. So, even if you deleted the discussions, they would still be archived somewhere in cyberspace just waiting for someone to accidentally come across them!

@teamfreak16 Yeah, I am sure back then I probably violated the rules or one liners. No idea, I know if I read my old old old posts, I wouldn't want them to be around

No, I do not delete my discussions. Yes, I do visit my old discussions for any missed comments. Nah, I do not see the need for a 'Delete All' feature.

@infatuatedbby I guess that is a common sentiment among writers - we feel embarrassed by what we wrote early on.

Actually its said that if we do delete, it will not do any harm to our earnings. I don't want to delete my newest discussions but maybe ones I made when I just joined (over 7 years ago)

Why delet them? Now if myLot said we have to clean things up - then I would. But I think some del them and re-post again....that's cheating for sure.

I don't want to delete all my discussions just ones I may not like anymore. Times changed and maybe 7 years ago I wrote about something stupid. Or maybe a content I overshared on that I wouldn't want anyone to read or even myself. Or just a fresh new start altogether. I think the reason why many do varies.

10 Jul 17
@sourabhrock2008 Yeah that can be the reason.
