God doesn't use a mobile phone

We’re in the city of Negrepelisse and visited the ancient church there. I’ll need to research more about it but what I did like was a sign on the inside of the door. There was a symbol of a mobile phone with a line through it. Nothing new about that but the wording was a little different. The translation was more or less ‘it is possible that in entering this church you may hear the call of God. On the contrary, it is less possible that he will contact you by phone’. And, at the bottom of the notice, ‘thank you for turning off your mobile phone’ The photo is Vince’s and shows the stained glass window above the altar.

A sign that I always remember reading in front of this one church was: "No perfect people allowed"

I would have thought that God was living with his time : he has a smartphone, a credit card, supports the Paris climate agreement and does not waste water. I took this picture yesterday at the source of St Bernadette in Lourdes.

I have noticed those "no cell phones allowed" signs in many places, hospital, churches, doctors cabinets. I cannot believe that people must be reminded to "be polite".

@JudyEv I agree, it seems that the cell phones are the most responsible to trigger bad manners in people.

That's very true. I'm sure people take more notice of such a sign than something forbidding a certain action.

There is no place for mobiles in a church. No reason at all a far as I'm concerned.

That is nice that they put that sign in the entrance of the church. Here, the commentator tells everyone before the mass begins to please turn off their cell phones.

Wow, what a striking picture. Ever since they came out with cell phones I've become dependent on keeping one with me especially when I'm driving around. I remember those days long before cell phones being used. I had one instance when my car stalled on the highway and there was nothing close by so I had to walk miles in the heat to get to a store. Thats the kind of situation I'd need a cell phone for.

I agree @JudyEv I don't think walking around in a store or on the street with your ear to the phone is a place for them either, I much prefer to sit somewhere private if I have to answer my cell when I am out and about.

I like those words from that church. Some people just don't know how to use their phones properly. They don't know how it can be bothering to ring loudly in public.

I thought God did have a phone when we were in Jerusalem. In the Temple area, near the Wailing Wall, nearly every religious Jew had a mobile phone and was talking rapidly and in a loud voice into it.

@JudyEv At the very least, one can carry a mobile phone and keep in silent mode, as I do. However, it is irritating in a temple or any other place of worship that people's mobile phones ring with some latest Bollywood tunes, or other music.

That is awful isn't it? I wrote about attending a medieval festival in Fougeres and most of the 'extra' characters in the little melodrama being acted out in the palace courtyard were carrying their mobiles - and wearing sunglasses!

That's a great sign, with a great message! Sadly, when I am in church I can always look around and see people on their smartphones during the church service. I'm pretty sure they are not texting God or commenting on any of his Facebook statuses! They need to put their phones away and pay attention to the sermon!

@JudyEv For people who are used to having their phones glued to their hands 24/7, one hour would seem like an eternity! What if they miss something important during that hour that they are at church? haha
