Firstly, I'd like to 'pologize to folks fer not bein' very active here 'f late. I've been kinda busy... I went out to tell my wee herd the horrid news 's such came from the Appropriations Committee today. A vote of 27-25, with Mr. Calvert from California, the Chairman, adding his name to the list of those who voted for the horse slaughter ban to be lifted here in the U.S. To say I nearly dropped my eye teeth 'd be'n understatement. I can't e'en tell y'all here my thoughts'n this matter. Ya know, coz such aint polite fer one 'n then the other? I'd be here poundin' these keys fer hours. The votin' fer the fate 'f the Wild Mustangs/Burros - both those still out'n the range 'n those poor souls who've been hunted down by helicopters, ripped from their families 'n treated worse 'n our worst human criminals 'tis 'pposed to be this next week. They need 's humans to act'n their behalf. Now. Today. 'tis direly important. Otherwise, thousands will be slaughtered, through no fault 'f their own. There's other ways that should'a been 'n could still be implemented to protect 'em 's 'tis the Wild Horse and Burro Act of 1971 states. Oh wait, the government 'tis been addin' amendments to such to suit their special interests... Ya know I aint one to beg, but I'm pleadin' with ya to contact yer elected officials ASAP - Americans can simply call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 'n ask to be connected with their representatives. Be polite, but let 'em know ya oppose such. To see how each of the committee members voted, ya can do so at this link: https://tinyurl.com/y7woz7y6/u If'n ya live outside 'f the U.S. 'n wish (please do, we need all the voices we can get) to, ya can contact the White House https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/write-or-call. *reckon I ought to thank ya here so's not to mess'p that link 't the bottom - thanks from the bottom 'f my heart 'n the hearts 'f the horses/burros! If'n yer a petition signin' kinda person, please visit the following: https://returntofreedom.salsalabs.org/wildontherange
The House Appropriations committee voted 27-25 on Wednesday to reject the Roybal-Allard/Dent horse slaughter defund amendment to the Fiscal Year 2018 Agriculture Appropriations bill. Because there is no permanent federal ban on horse slaughter, advocates p

thanks, ms. judy. i'm heartbroken 'n quite angry 'bout the vote. did get some comfort to find out today that such aint been voted'n by congress 'stelf yet, so's there's still time to lobby 'gainst this insanity. if'n folks'd jest keep callin'/emailin'/signin' the petitions. seems that's all politicians seem to listen to - bein' bombarded with the facts 'n wishes 'f the public they serve versus the special interest groups that line their pockets.

@crazyhorseladycx .....I do it for the animals. Many people today do not respect or think of animals as having any rights. It is very sad.

I tried to sign but that petition is only for those living in the US. I hope it will work in your favour. Having said that what happens to horses that are out of commission. In what way would your horses be affected by this?

@allknowing there's many rescue groups who do what they can to rehab those horses 'n find 'em homes. sadly most that adopt 'em don't seem to realize that they eat way more'n other breeds 'f horses 's their metabolism 'tis so high.

i 'ppreciate ya tryin', hon. seems that the white house/congress/senate 're only acceptin' those who're here'n the u.s. :( the horses i've here'n my place 'll be protected by me. the thousands they've already got'n holdin' pens (takin' from the ranges, where they used to be wild 'n free) 're 't risk. so's any horse that's sold to the wrong buyer. the count 'tis been 'pproximated to be 100,000 wild horses will be sent to slaughter if'n we don't act to protect 'em from such an ill-deserved fate.

I am one that feels these animals should be able to live not be slaughtered. Your post reminds me so much of the movie "Wild Horse Hank". Let's save these beautiful animals. They have just as much right to live as we do.

@crazyhorseladycx What they are doing is so heartbreaking. I wish there was enough people that would be willing to give them a home. If I had land I would get one or two just to watch run around and play. Keep us posted please. That is a good movie, pretty old one.

@velvet53 i agree, hon. there'd be a surplus 'f horses these days though, 's so many 're encouraged to keep breedin' (quarter horses, paint association, etc) 'n then those that don't come'p to their breeders 'xpectations get sold, most oft to kill buyers 'r folks who jest don't seem to comprehend they're a lifetime commitment.

they don't need to be slaughtered here nor 'cross the borders - none 'f our equines need to go through such. but, mr. stewart 'tis proposin' they be disposed 'f, but not fer human consumption. which leaves one to believe mass killin' both out'n the range (via helicopter/folks shootin' 'em whilst they run fer their lives) 'n 't the holdin' pens. the blm, congress 'n the other government entities caused this calamity. their 'solution' most appallin' to say the least. there's a new petition fer the next step which i'm quite fond 'f - it not only states 'don't do it', but viable 'n scientifically proven solutions. i don't believe i've seen that movie?? perhaps i ought to seek such out.

Maybe they need to euthanize all the murderers, petafiles and rapists we've been feedin then tear down those stupid prisons that we've been payin upkeep on, I'd much rather rehab wild habitat to keep them roamin free and keepin them alive. I'm becoming ashamed of our government.

@rebelann the navajo put to the table to 've a horse hunt! yepperz, they've too many 's well 'n figured such 'twas a good idea :( thankfully they spoke, face to face, with one 'f the horse advocacy groups. to 'xplain the pzp 'n other ideas to keep from such 'xtremes. 'f course, now the navajo want more federal government funds to pay fer such...

@jaboUK the committee voted to allow horse slaughter :( thankfully through the 1st round'n the senate such was voted down. still a long haul to go 'fore those folks make such 'nto law (politicians...sigh). we've still not managed to get a voice'n regards to the wild horses/burros who're out'n the range'n also'n captivity. mr. stewart (who spear-headed the campaign to kill off the mustangs/burros) 's changed his language to 'not to be used for commercial or human consumption' - which with my thinkin' 'long with that 'f others, means mass killin' - jest not sent to slaughter. we continue to fight...

yes ma'am 'n such 'tis most 'ppreciated! i was devastated to hear 'f such news 'n greatly disappointed by the vote 'f mr. calvert from california. he's 'pposed to be a critter lover. they've reworded some'f their proposed actions, i've my fingers crossed that such'd be'n the favor 'f the horses - both domestic 'n those'n the wild. will know tomorrow, 'fter the final vote....

well, they (the folks 'n the committee) were shown pics 'f starvin' horses 'n believed the lies they were told. gullible bunch, eh? mankind created the surplus 'f horses - both wild 'n those domesticated. our taxpayer dollars help to fund the thoroughbred 'n other registered breeds 'f horses. humans 're lookin' fer the almighty dollar 'n those folks aint 'shamed to find e'ery loophole possible. jest 's many industries :(

my patronizing colleague once brought a delicacy of horse meat, and i had a taste of it. the meat was not hard and it was chewable. i just came to learn it was horse meat after i ate a piece. i do not like to eat the meat of a horse because although horses eat only grass and hay, the mere thought that this hoofed animal, that serves us men, is slaughtered for food, is already a disgust for me. do the slaughtered horses there also have their meats sold?
