I just read that inviting Donald Trump for Bastille Day was like inviting the Pope at a Gay Pride. I have to disagree, and not only because it is unfair for the Pope. France does not invite Donald Trump but the President of the US. And maybe we can explain to Donald Trump, this amateur of walls, what we celebrate for Bastille Day : the fall of the wall of a prison. The wall was not very high, and there were not a lot of prisoners in this prison, the most famous was the marquis de Sade.
The pretext of this visit is to celebrate the 100th anniversary of USA’s entry into WWI. Even if the participation of USA to WWI was symbolic (2 military divisions/550 divisions opposed to the Germans), this act coming from an old ally of France has been highly appreciated at the time. It is these kind of involvments that made America great. Who was the President of the USA in 1917 ? Woodrow Wilson, the father of the ancestor of the UN, the «Société des Nations», and the president who gave the right to vote to women, a great US president who would not have been friend with the actual one and his "America first" motto.
Donald Trump has chosen to eat at the Eiffel Tower tonight, at the «Jules Verne», a restaurant owned by the chef Alain Ducasse. It is a proof that he can make some concessions and eat something else that junk food. We can cherish the hope to send him back to USA a bit more civilized.

Apart from him being there and I was watching on the Television giving a "different handshake" to Macron or at least it seemed different.
I was waiting for him to give Macron a Judo Lock but he seemed a bit more amiable than usual says me or am I dreaming?
Great image tops.

Yes I thought she looked good too.
So I was not dreaming then tops about the handshake.
When Trump started to shake hands with Macron I thought here we go here we go out comest the Judo Lock but thankfully it did not.
King Felipe has been in London to see the Queen too I saw a bit of that.
They put the Spanish colours and the gold and the works for him and Letizia.

@lovinangelsinstead21 No, Trump seems to have taken some lessons to shake hands, or he was fearing the handshake of Macron.
We never see the king of Spain on French tv news, I do not know why. The only royalties that we see times to times are the queen of England and the prince of Monaco, but this one speaks French.
Is the king of Spain parent with Queen Elisabeth ?

I question History as to why the nazies wanted to be in France anyway? I think it certainly wasn't for the benefit of France. Did they want a better launching pad across the channel and if memory serves me correctly hitler wanted to build a masterful museum in Berlin full of all the great art that resided on the other side of a French wall?

An old conflict about Alsace I guess, who is a German dialect speaking country but has always been French until the Germans got it in 1870, and lost it again in 1914. In 1940, they immediately considered it like a German territory. For the art, they took some art in any country they invaded, not only in France. And they destroyed most of church bells and bronze statues to make bullets and shells.

An impressive scenery (re: the above painting, is it still there these days?). Kept thinking about Trump's former wives. Bad luck that they didn't have a chance to become a First Lady. This wife is lucky isn't she? (that is, if she likes to be in that position!)

The building has been destroyed soon after Bastille Day. It was mainly from the 14th C. We have a square at its place today. The column celebrates the Revolution of July... 1830, not 1789.
I am not sure that it is good luck to be married to Donald Trump, but speaking of personality, I prefer 3 Melania to 1 Donald.

Trump is not very American or traditional. Doesn't respect either one much.

Prez Donald Trump guest of honor on Bastille Day celebrations in Paris? A rare and prestigious moment for the President—the guest of honor at France’s Bastille Day parade, the first American President to do so since former President H.W. Bush in 1989.
Looked like the First Foursome enjoyed each other's company.
