Pull the chain for a shower? That's a new one

We have now stayed in a number of different camping grounds in France and caravan parks and each has had its own unique features. All have been perfectly adequate but sometimes a feature will still surprise me.
The showers vary in the ways they operate. This year so far we have had to pay extra for showers just once. Several have a push-button which runs water for about 30 seconds. The water then stops and you just push it again to get another 30 seconds. Some of these are not adjustable as regards the temperature of the water although the water has always been nice and hot.
One place in the Pyrenees was slightly different. The shower had a chain much like flushing toilets used to have when I was a child. In the shower you pulled the chain and within a short time you had hot water. However as soon as you released the chain the water stopped which meant you had to do everything with one hand or soap first and rinse after. A bit tricky when trying to wash long hair.
The chain was the right length to hold in your mouth but I wasn’t sure my teeth were up to keeping pressure on the chain throughout a shower.

I agree with @JolietJake, it's the only way they found to prevent wasting water. I have seen this kind of showers at the beaches in Italy. I would never use my teeth for something many hands have touched.

I remember seeing something like that on Gilligan's Island, one of our old tv shows, and boy did I get a kick out of that ..... I have never seen one in person though.
I wouldn't have put that chain in my mouth no matter what, it just sounds unsanitary.

I don't think I could use my teeth to hold a chain that God knows who else had their mouths on it LOL

I wouldn't be holding it in my teeth either. If we'd been there for a few days I'd have tied a string on the chain and put my foot on it.

lol I am usually more impressed with the many many ways to flush a toilet in Europe. I usually try to figure it out before I use it!! Very creative these Europeans lol

@BelleStarr The first time we came over I had a lot of trouble sometimes just trying to work out how to turn a tap on.

It does doesn't it? It was a bit inconvenient but otherwise okay.

A bit inconvenient, but an interesting idea nevertheless Makes me wonder how many more types of shower there are out there.

Taking a shower one handed is hard to do. I don't like that shower.

That's one way to save on water.

There seems to be much more awareness of 'saving the environment' now. Everywhere has recycling depots, etc, so it's a good thing they're trying to save water too.

Very good, just by pulling the chain can take a shower, it sounds very interesting

I hadn't seen one like it before but it wasn't very convenient.

It's meant to stop people using so much water. Some have no idea how to limit their water usage.
