Camping in the Heat

(Sung to the tune of Dancing in the Streets)) What a busy week it has been for me and the missus. She has been putting in 10 and 11 hour days getting ready for a system conversion at work. She even brought her laptop with us and spent most of Thursday and Friday logged in remotely. I spent the first part of the week finalizing the edits and formatting for ONE BOY TWO ISLANDS, and finished the cover art on Wednesday. Everything has been uploaded to the printer and I am waiting for word that everything is ready for me to order a draft copy. I am hoping to have the book, in paperback and e-book forms, available on Amazon by the end of the month. We did leave Thursday morning for our camping trip. I don't think I've camped in such hot and uncomfortable weather since Boy Scout Summer Camp when the boys were teens. Our site has no shade and even with the a/c going all day it gets hot here in the camper. The heat index here hit 104F(37C) yesterday. If this wasn't a club event, I think we might have taken a pass on being here this weekend and gone farther west into the mountains. Still and all, we are enjoying visiting with our friends in the club and just being away from the ordinary routine for a few days. I hope everyone had a good week, and is having a great weekend. Are you keeping cool wherever you are?

104 F is very hot, we reached 100 F at the beginning of July, but later we had several thunderstorms and now the temperature is fine.

Thursday evening we had a late thunderstorm and it brought the temps down to a comfortable level. Last night we were hoping for another storm to cool things off but no such luck. Once the sun goes down, though, the temperature drops some and the a/c is able to do a better job of cooling things off.

If it hadn't been a club event I don't know that we'd have stuck it out.

It is surprisingly cool here this morning at 77f at 10:40am, thats very unusual for this time of year. I know what you mean about that camper gettin hot, I live in a mobile home so when we get into the high 90s and low triples it gets really hot inside, I don't have A/C but I keep the fans on which blow some of the hot air out the windows. I used to hate those damn conversions, I think in the 40 years I'd worked around computers I've gone through at least 12 and it's always a hassle to relearn everything.

Today was our coolest day of the weekend by far. Of course it was. It was the day we had to pack up and come home.

I remember my days as a Boy Scout camping in the summer. It was miserable. I even spent two summers as a counselor at the Scout camp, which meant I had to endure those brutal conditions for 10 solid weeks. Some of the more senior staff members had cabins with a/c, but I never built up enough seniority to get so lucky.

It was funny how the boys never seemed to mind the heat.

@DWDavis I remember the heat being really bad when I was a kid, but I don't recall ever complaining about it or letting it stop me from having fun. Nowadays, I plan my daily activities based on the projected forecast, scheduling as much indoor activity as I can during the hottest parts of the day.

I love the heat, but that might just be a little much. Hang in there!

With the humidity we had, the air was so thick you almost had to sponge it dry before you could breath it.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to be camping in this weather. I was out most of the day..it was hot, but not unbearable.

It hasn't been too bad here. We had some thunderstorms a few days ago that cooled things off a lot. Yesterday I needed a sweater. Today seems sunny and warm though.

I don't know when I'll next need a sweater. We are expecting temps in the 90s all next week.

It has been really hot here too, I'm mostly staying indoors as much as possible. I hope you enjoy the rest of your camping trip. =)

That's so extremely hot. I think you need to find a shaded and cool place for camping.

If I had remembered to make our reservation earlier we could have had a shady site. That would have helped a lot.

At the moment, I'm almost ready to jump into the creek. Just finished pulling weeds and washing down the wall on our porch that is quite dusty. I'm inside now where it is cooler!

One thing this campground lacks is a swimming pool. It is in their future plans.

Spring and fall are my favorite times to camp. Warm enough during the day for t-shirts and cool enough at night for campfires.

Camping in the heat doesn't sound too exciting , but enjoy the trip as much as you can. I am hoping for some rain to help cool things down.

We got some rain the night before, but no such luck on Friday. It did cool off enough for the a/c to catch up that night.
