The first time I saw this movie was in the theater, and just like everyone before me, and those who viewed it with me, nobody moved until the credits were finished. The Passion of the Christ is an awe inspiring movie that shows the cruelty of the Roman soldiers in the crucifixion of Jesus. Nobody likes to think about how badly beaten Jesus was. We know what scripture says, but we hurry to the best part - the resurrection. There was no hurrying to the resurrection with this movie. It really brings home what Jesus was willing to go through for our salvation. The movie is in Arabic with subtitles in English, but I didn't mind that. I don't think anybody did who watched it with me. This is a Mel Gibson film. Jim Caviezel played Jesus. If you have not seen this film, I fully recommend it. Thanks for reading. Picture is mine.

I didn't like the film because the emphasis seemed (to me) to be on the physical suffering, not the emotional suffering. I wanted to like it, but it just didn't move me.

@just4him I'm most moved by Christ himself questioning, even if only briefly, whether he has been forsaken by his Father. (Correct me if I'm wrong!)

@TheHorse You're right. It was the first words Jesus said from the cross.

My children didn't like it either. I think that was the purpose - to show the physical. Everyone knows it was a brutal crucifixion, but nobody really depicted it before.

My husband (then boyfriend) and I saw it in the theater and the place was packed!!! I don't know why I felt so compelled to see it as I'm not religious. I guess it was my Catholic school upbringing. It was very well done. Not for the faint of heart. It definitely made an impression. It was heartbreaking to see Mary watching Jesus carry the cross. I don't think I'd want to watch it again though.

Hollywood refused to finance this film so Gibson did it himself and reaped the bounty of a huge international success. Even after, Hollywood ignored there is a faith based audience willing to buy tickets.

Too bad for Hollywood. There's been a few faith based movies in the past couple years that are phenomenal. Gibson did a good job with this film. Very well done.

It is moving. It's a harsh portrayal of what he went through for us.

We loved this movie and saw it on DVD. There was an option to have the subtitles read to you and we used it.

@just4him it's the only time that we have ever seen that option. It was wonderful. We both have poor vision.

I've never seen that kind of option. That would be great as I can't always read them all before the next one comes up.

@just4him Oh yeah. From some of the other movies done about Christ, they don't really depict his suffering like this one does.

Isaw it when it first came out and wept throgh most of the movie. The best at showing how bad he physically suffered.

I agree. It was the best at showing the brutality of it all. It makes salvation more meaningful.

For the same reason mentioned by @ TheHorse - I read the reviews and decided this wasn't a show I would feel comfortable watching - because on the whole I never ever watch movies where people are seemingly being tortured, I am faint hearted . I read about the crucifixion and what Jesus suffered, but I won't want to watch it. There was a man in South America who got a heart attack while watching that show. The other thing is about Mel Gibson - in real life he is a very troubled soul . I have avoided watching some of his other movies too because he seems to go over the top with blood and gore.
