That was a let down..

Earlier last week my husband found a showing of Beauty and the Beast the musical at a theater about an hour from here. I was really excited because that is a show that I've been dying to see on stage. Tickets were fairly cheap, but still expensive enough to let me know it should be a good show.. But it wasn't a good show. Turns out it was a community theater type of thing. It wasn't professional as I expected it would be. Had I known that, I wouldn't have gone. None of the advertisements that I saw for the show hinted that it wouldn't be professional, so I had no way of knowing. For community theater it wasn't horrible.. but it didn't satisfy my desire to see this show on stage... I just have to look for a better production of it. My younger boys enjoyed it at least. Our middle school will be doing this show in the fall, so my 11 year old was very excited to see it and start thinking about what character he might play.

Sorry it was a disappointment. There is just no way of knowing that until you go to see it. Hopefully some day you will get to see a better performance of it. It is great that the middle school will be doing it in the fall.

I hope to see the real thing on Broadway someday. A lot of the big Broadway shows come to our local theater and they're done extremely well.. it's almost exactly like Broadway only they're touring. We have tickets to see The Lion King in November.. I can't wait for that one!

I guess it wasn't a total waste if they liked it, but when you spend good money you expect a good product.

I still kind of feel like it was a total waste. I was disappointed as was my older son. The younger boys liked it allright, but the real thing would have been so much better!

Sorry to hear it wasn't what you expected. We recently went to see a production of Lion King Jr . . . usually this workshop is pretty outstanding, but it was just ok. A few of the actors - well, the acting and singing wasn't the best - I was surprised they were casted for their roles - but what can I say. There is one actress who we look forward to seeing each time - and she did an excellent job as Rafiki - it was joy to see her on stage again. Prices for the tickets have gone up from previous years.

The same with this show.. some of the actors just weren't meant for their roles, although some were very good.

I'm sorry that stinks to waste money on something not great, especially if it was expensive! I hope you get to see a good production of it soon.

It wasn't extremely expensive.. about $20 a ticket, but 4 of us went so it adds up, plus we had to eat out because I didn't have time to make dinner because it was an hour away. It's just money I wouldn't have wasted if I had known it was an amateur show.

That's too bad that you didn't realize it wasn't a professional production, but at least the boys enjoyed it.

Yeah, it was a shame to have gone all that way, expecting to see a great production, and it was just so-so.
