This morning when I went channels surfing I was shocked to learn that the owner of the Carolina Panthers Jerry Richardson fired his general manager David Gettleman on Monday. Gettleman may be have been fired by Richardson due to the fact that Gettleman did not give in to salary demands of former football players Steve Smith Jr., and Josh Norman when they left the team as free agents to play for the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins respectively. Smith retired at the end of the 2016 football season with the Baltimore Ravens while Norman remains with the Redskins. Richardson did not like the way that Gettleman treated his star players by refusing to give them their market salaries that he felt they deserved. Easier said than done since the fans have to pay the salaries of the star players via higher ticket prices. Now comes the fun part that the Panthers management will have to find a replacement for Gettleman the week before training camp begins. Only in Charlotte.

I have never heard of such a late firing in terms of just before camp.

That is the reason I ended the discussion with the term "Only In Charlotte." Even the New Orleans Saints under John Mecom were not that crazy.
