“Do you like to make a promise?”

There are times that we make promises. It is a simple word that can result to either, make or break the heart of others. “Would you agree?” For some parents, they tend to make promises to their children even it is impossible. “Can we blame them?” I think it shouldn’t be. They did it for the sake of love to their children. But then, we have to weigh if it is the right thing to do. “Why?” Some children are not like others who can comprehend it in just a snap of fingers. In reality, the common quote: "Promises meant to be broken” was proven in some circumstances. “What do you think?” Image Credit: a.wattpad.com

I don't make promises. Life is too unpredictable. I don't promise my children anything either, there is enough disappointment in this world and I don't want to be the one that causes more of it for them. I always tell them-Maybe about everything.

I agree. Sometimes we need to control everything and promises can shatter the expectations of others. I do promise but with conditions. There is an explanation with "if." "If we can, then we can have it."

If I make a promise to my younger son then he won't give me peace till the promise fulfilled. My goodness my elder one is so clam but younger is not like that. So I am careful to make any promise.

With children, it's entirely different. My father promised his grandson that he would visit him soon... when my dad didn't go, that boy didn't talk to my dad till he went there and spoiled him with gifts LOL

@Sreekala My youngest brother is a nagger. He doesn't stop when you promised something. As an uncle for my little niece, I do promise on the spot and buy what she wants if we are in the mall.

It is nice that you haven't tried. I had made promises before and disappointment of others kill me. That's the reason why I am so cautious about making promises.

I never did like that quote. Promises are meant to be kept. I don't make a promise unnecessarily.

I am so carefree in giving promises. I don't want pressure myself and being pressured. It is better to make promises if being sure that it will happen.

I only like to make promises that I can keep. I like to be a man of my word. So, before I promise anything I think carefully as to whether I can keep that promise.

I do not like making promises unless I am sure that I can keep them. When I make a promise to my kids in the school, I do my best to keep it or else they will not believe in me anymore.

I don't like that statement. If you can't keep your promise, you shouldn't make it. I know I've broken promises, but not many as I do my best to keep the promises I make.

Some people fail to understand such an impact of breaking promises. They should be firm and certain to do all the promises.

@just4him I had some of them who are user-friendly people and became abusive to my kindness. That's the reason why I am quite choosy making friends and cannot trust people easily. It is a big lesson for me.

I don't make one, actually! So there's no point of breaking it.. If I think I can do it and i'll do it (like showing up and get together). If I don't, then I won't. That's me...

I seldom want to make a promise unless it is necessary. As I am afraid whether I can keep my promise. I hate to break it. So usually I will just say that I will try and that's already like a promise for me.

I agree. We can be in the middle of the situation and not promise with certainty. High hopes will become a frustration to us and to others.

I used to grow up making promises, but then I learned that some promises cannot be attained, so I no longer make promises, only results

It shouldn't be broken intentionally. Otherwise why even bother making a promise if we don't intend to keep it in the first place?

If we kept on promising and never had attained it, people will not trust us. It happens in the real world.

There are some instances that we can't keep our promises. Regardless, if we give promises, then take all the responsibility and make it come true.

I think we need to be like this. It is not good to promise if we can't make it true. We are still humans and being sensitive makes us a good person.

My word is my bond, I was taught as a young child, not to break promises. My children all know that I would move heaven and earth just to keep my promises to them. I do the same to everyone. If I can't, then I will tell the person so after many tryings. (I am very forgetful these days however, so the kids have to constantly remind me. )

I think you are a good mother like the others. They can give promises and so gentle to explain things if it is impossible. The bond between a mother and a child are so special. Communication will be understood despite promises weren't fulfilled.
