Thunderstorms: Both Scary and Exciting!

i must admit I do have a love of thunderstorms even though I realize they can be dangerous. However, there's something about them with their loud booms and lightning that are always exciting to watch. My mother has passed her love of thunderstorms on to her children and all of us feel the same way. When I was a kid I used to sit out on our big porch on our city house and watch the whole show. Now that I think of it, it could have even been dangerous if a lightning bolt shot in sideways even though the porch had a good roof. My friends and/or family members used to gather on the big porch and watch till the end. We just had a storm here a few days ago and there was thunder but it wasn't very dramatic but I did watch it as long as I could. Now that I'm older though I'm very aware of the danger. Do you like summer thunderstorms?

@MarymargII And not just thuderstorms, but to live by the sea as I used to..only 50 ft from the shore, when the wild wind and gales would come, I was in heaven.

@MarymargII Wow, that is very hard for animals. They have better hearing than we do L. Jenkinson.

I love the thunderstorms, especially when it's late in the evening and I can sit under the porch in the dark and admire the lightning and enjoy the smell of the air. The only thing I fear is the hail.

@MarymargII Even if I am protected I do not like to see hail, the poor small birds can be killed by hail.

Precisely how I feel too Anna- love to watch it but no don't like hard hail- it could damage things and hurt you too. Although- if I was protected I wouldn't mind watching. ha!

I remember one day my cat was outside and it was blue skies and then all of a sudden I heard lightning and dashed out and picked her up and brought her inside. She did not like lightning.

@MarymargII The dog must have been spooked by something that it would whimper L. Jenkinson.

I am totally the opposite of you! My Mom transferred her fears of storms. She would wakes us up in the middle of the night and we all had to come and sit downstairs with her untile the storm was over. And of course, being Catholic, she made us recite the rosary. Oh, how I hated those nights.

oh so now of course you are afraid of those loud storms- don't blame you! We were in Toronto when Hurricane Hazel blew through and all I can remember is hiding behind a chair at my mother's request. It was a violent night but I didn't seem to be afraid. My mother was a calm soul though.

I prefer winter thunderstorms in Florida, because they are even more dramatic over the water. Also, Doodles is afraid of thunder, so I hope we don't get many here.
