Another big name has exited the Tour de France. German sprinter Marcel Kittel abandoned the race after being caught up in a multi-rider crash on today's Stage 17. Kittel, who had won five stages in this year's Tour, was the wearer of the Green points leader jersey, and had a nine point lead over Michael Matthews in that competition. Kittel damaged both his shoulder and knee, severely enough that he couldn't continue. French rider Thibaut Pinot also abandoned after a crash.

That is sad. I hope his injuries will heal well & quickly and that he can continue his bicycling career.

I haven't seen an update on just how serious his injuries are.
