Thursday is Our New Friday

Friday has always been my most favorite day of the week. I first realized it when I was in third grade and went downtown for my piano lessons all by myself and returned home to a Sabbath dinner. The house always smelled of Jubilee counter polish and Pledge duster which my mother and housekeeper used. It also had the delicious aromas of homemade chicken soup, roast chicken, and roast potatoes. Now days, my life is quite different. I am retired and still love Fridays. However, there are not enough days in the weekend for us. So Thursday is our new Friday! We are so fortunate to have lots of friends and needed an extra day to "go out" with them. Tonight we are going to a seaside restaurant with friends for dinner, music, and drinks. Same next Thursday with a different set of friends in a different town. Do you have a lot of friends to socialize with? Do you also need an extra day?

I had my fill of socializing when I was on the diplomatic circuit. Still sometimes I do feel like I need an extra day to complete all of my projects and have some me time as well.

You have a wonderful family that keeps you hopping. I adore my family, and they always come first, but they lead busy social lives, too, so friends are the next best thing. I do have some extra special and fabulous friends.

I'm sure you need extra days for yourself. Your cup runneth over. If you're reading this, then Happy Friday and I hope you did sleep well. There was a lovely breeze at the beach, and we had dinner on the deck, drinks and all, listened to the band and singer, and saw the sunset. Super duper night. I'm home now, so cellular data is off. Our new car has outlets for our phones and iPads. Good to know.

We go out a lot but it is usually just the 2 of us. Our friends now all have small children and we don't so we are kind of out of the loop with that stuff.

Pledge - omg I had forgotten that my mom used that all the time too! I do have a lot of friends . . . but besides the fact that I'm so busy with family life, my friends drive me nuts so I limit what I do with them . I would love an extra completely free day with the family though! Enjoy the seaside fun with good company tonight - I know you'll have a blast!

Thank you! We always had family night dinners out and movies when our kids were young. On Sundays, we all played racquetball at our club with our friends and their kids, then all of us went out to dinner. In the summer, we did the same, but left from a day at our beach club. Fun and special times, filled with such loving memories. Once, I told my husband that I wanted to check into a hospital for a rest. That's when he started helping even more around the house and carpooling. I scared the daylights out of him! lol Dinner was lovely. We ate on the deck, listening to a live band, and saw the sunset over the water. Nothing can beat that sight.

It's great to have more than one Friday in the week. I only socialize at the pool and with my Writer's group. I'm pretty much a loner. I love that picture of your Ice Princess on water skis.

You know I'm very happy to hear that you socialize a lot more at the pool. Being a loner is just fine, but having people to share similar interests with is so much fun! Thank you. My ice princess is good at many things and seems to love most everything, as you can tell. lol

@DianneN Her list of achievements continues to grow. It's hard for me to break the loner mindset. I'm working on it though. I have only three outside commitments - church, the Y, and Writer's Guild. On a whole the most socializing I do is right here on myLot. I can be a loner and socialize at the same time.

Since I gave became a caregiver for the sick , Tony and one other elderly lady was long term and live in`s, I do not go out as much. I used to have lunch with one lady every Friday, Lunch with my dad every Wednesday, and Saturday night was fish fry night at my house, sometimes people showed up that was not invited but that was okay, I always cooked enough. And I had my favorite, lunch with my elderly client, I drove to Atlanta once a month and we ate at the Greek place inside the Atlanta expo, she owned an antique store and once a month Scott`s antique flea market was at the expo centers, north and south. Seems the older I have gotten, the less I entertain, maybe its just a thing that will pass and I will get back to myself.

I was always a fan of Thursdays, even in school. Because that meant the next day was Friday and Friday, yeah still had to wake up early for school, but a lot of fun things happened on Fridays. But I never had a lot of friends and still don't, I wasn't a partier, I actually didn't go to any parties that contained with drinking until a few weeks ago haha.

You are right. The days, weeks, and months seem to fly by. I truly don't know how I managed to squeeze in a full time career. I absolutely love being retired and never knowing what day of the week it is! Everyday is Friday for us retirees.
