Think your way happy?

I have been browsing the list of most recent discussions and it seems to me that there are many unhappy people here, or at least those who know they could be happier. I have found that attitude is everything, although I don't always practice a positive attitude. Things get to everyone now and then, I know, but did you know that you really can fake a smile until it becomes real? Your body responds to it as if you were really happy. Feelings of loneliness or discontent or frustration affects our bodies to a great degree. I have been through some severe medical problems and I can tell you that on the days when I feel sorry for myself, I feel awful. If I catch myself and make myself think positively (as in being grateful for the things I have and can do, knowing that God is with me through everything, seeing the sunshine and the grass and my chair as positive things), makes all the difference in the world. What do you think? Can you make yourself feel better? Have you tried?

Thanks! I am glad to be back. It takes a little effort (sometimes a lot of effort), but I agree. Even a tiny thing can bring about changes.

I agree, positive outlook can help a lot. I think many people find this as some sort of outlet for them to vent their frustration, maybe it helps them feel better. I personally prefer to read happy, positive and inspirational discussions.

I think we all prefer the upbeat, positive discussions! It helps us keep our spirits up. While I'm sure it helps some people to talk or write out their woes, I think that being positive about things in general keeps everyone feeling better.

I am an optimistic person. I don't usually post sad moments in mylot. If I really cannot conceal my sad feelings, I might as well share it here. Then, I will be fine after. I do believe that writing is a good tool for me to ease up my troubled soul.

I have always believed that we have the power to be in whatever mood we choose to be in. You can not let someone or something have such a great influence on you that it changes your whole attitude for the day. Live on, focus on yourself and your happiness and everything should fall into place. Don't let the negative people bring you down.

Absolutely. While we can't be cold and not respond to those around us, we still are responsible only for ourselves and how we feel.

Hopefully, you are doing better from your health challenges! Yes, I agree, we can make ourselves feel better and elevate our mood. It is an art. We can get better at it the more we try. We can develop a positive attitude, especially with God's help.

It's not always easy and I agree, we can get better at it the more we work at it. God is absolutely positive, so it helps to "plug in" to Him!

@1hopefulman Interesting video, thanks! I agree that a good attitude helps, along with a healthy life style and sometimes, just good genes. There's a lot to be said from thinking positively and relaxing in God. It might sound strange, but I think God has led me to find out about the healing effects of certain Biblical music as well as a few other ways to root out negative emotions and thoughts. It's a journey!

@peavey I found this interesting video about this heart surgeon and one of the things he mentions is a good mental attitude and he is now 102 years old and has no health issues.
Retired heart surgeon, Dr. Ellsworth Wareham gives his secret for living to 100.

I can do it and have to with all I am going through. There are times when I get down and think there is no way out but I stop and think about how dumb I am being. I do try to keep as busy as I can so that I don't have time to dwell on things. I am a firm believer in smiles. I had an incident today at the grocery store and I started to get a little bit of an attitude. I stopped and looked at the young man and apologized then I gave him a big smile and thanked him for being patient with me.

When we feel colder in life, remember to move closer back to love, once more again
Sometimes an unchanging life situation bogs us down I often feel down because I just do not know how to make things better in my life. I feel I am wasting time, and wasting my life. My situation has been the same for twenty years. Sometimes I am numbed by it all into feeling down. I have not been able to find full-time work in all of that time, only casual, or part-time stuff. How can I have the faith that I am learning and still growing even from this position though? All life grows around love, and the closer you get to this love, the warmer you will feel, although love is not like a fire in this respect that you can become colder when not near it. Getting closer to love means that we do not isolate ourselves away from connecting to it in our mind and our heart, feeling sorry for our self, when the real truth is that love is still, and it has there never left us really, and love is always ready to warm us again, as soon as we turn to it, and away from the ice that we are holding onto right now. We need to drop the ice into love's furnace, and let it all melt away. I liked what Sandy said in a reply here: "I started to get a little bit of an attitude. I stopped and looked at the young man and apologized then I gave him a big smile and thanked him for being patient with me." As soon as we become aware that we have moved away from love, we should move ourselves right back again like this. It was a beautifully practical example of what to do.

So very true, all of it. I think there is one aspect about our life situations that we (at least I do) often forget and that is that God is with us right there through it all and that we do not live defeated, no matter what the circumstances are. If we allow the warmth of the love of God to keep us warm, we are living in victory. There is no despair or defeat in God. He told me so Himself. We have the ability to decide which thoughts and which spirit is welcome in our minds. That's a responsibility, too. I like the way you put it. "We need to drop the ice into love's furnace, and let it all melt away." It's a choice.

@innertalks One time when I was praying rather desperately just to know that He was near, He said "You are in my presence all the time." Not "I am here always" but "you are in my presence." That really stopped my complaining. Even when things are bad or blah or good or whatever, I am in His presence. It was a revelation that seems obvious, but I hadn't thought of it that way. Yes, He is with us. And we are with Him, always!

@peavey This appears to be a great insight you were given here. I think that it would be right overall in its appliance to all of us too then too. Some revelations are true to us all and some just apply to the person they are given to I think. All is God, so all are present within his greater self. Jesus Christ acts, I think, as a focus point for God. Jesus too then is present in each point of God of which we are all one, so Jesus is in us, and we are in him, and Jesus is always present with each part of God, which is us, as well.

True! We can't depend on others to "fix" what is in ouselves. A happy heart doesn't always come naturally or easily.
