So seeing as I just wrote about dream locations that ended up in my real life, I thought it'd be a nice segue into a short series about some of my travels. I always wanted to be a travel TV show host - so now I get to do a version of that on My Lot :-) The first one I would like to write about is my trip to Chicago in 2013.    (Incase you didn't read that one - We took the trip on Amtrak - my first time on rail which was a great experience.  Chicago itself was full of amazing structures, buildings and the scenic Chicago river that runs through the town provides plenty of opportunities for awesome bridges. The huge, majestic buildings downtown I had assumed at one time were department storefronts were now coffeehouse chains, drugstores, banks and it seemed like there was a Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin Robbins every block or so.  That sort of disappointed me, since I thought perhaps the shops would be more unique.   Along the bank of one of the great lakes - Lake Michigan - there is a beautiful walkway and of course Navy Pier with it's huge Ferris wheel, stained glass museum, and other attractions - which could have taken a whole day devoted to itself.   The Shed aquarium was an awesome experience in itself - the building and exhibits were great.  I did get to experience "Chicago" style pizza (thick crust) and the "Chicago" hot dog (beef hot dog with lots of stuff on it)....Next time Chicago - I want to experience your "Italian Beef" and see the Science museum.  Near the middle of downtown there is an amazing park with native plants, planted, a pavilion for I assume concerts and of course the famous "Bean" sculpture, a huge mirrored bean shaped interactive sculpture that you can walk under and around.   This was with my ex-fiancé, and I made several large discoveries about his personality during that trip, - signs that we shouldn't be together.  So it was an odd time of my life, the excitement of sight seeing along with the wondering about the future of my relationship. But I am thankful things with him didn't work, it wouldn't have been a good future, -- I would like to say - if you are serious about someone - travel with them.  It can bring a lot of things to light.  In short Chicago is a large city with lots of sights and scenes and things to do, I would gladly go back.  Here's a webpage that features some of the popular attractions of Chicago. - https://www.choosechicago.com/welcomehome/?utm_source=ppc&utm_medium=google&utm_campaign=chicago_sightseeing

I have never been to Chicago although my sister has. It is not high on my list of places to visit. Who knows one day maybe. I am glad you found out your incompatibility with your ex partner! Thank heavens for your Chicago trip!

I went for my first time ever, not counting the airports, last May, with my husband. He has been there several times, and knew where to stay, eat, shop, and what to see. We loved it!

@FayeHazel We took a bus tour and went on the ferris wheel at Navy Pier, drinks on the 96th floor of the John Hancock Center, the Magic Mile, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Saks, the penthouse Lady Gaga bought, the Chicago Theater, and a whole bunch of things. Loved the restaurants and shopping, too!!!! lol

@FayeHazel They opened a new ferris wheel the weekend we were there. Each car was enclosed with glass and a/c. It was awesome and I'm afraid of heights! The upscale shops are on Magic Mile. Louis Vuitton and Chanel were on the corners where our hotel was. Of course I needed new shoes. lol. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

I've been to many of the museums in Chicago. The one I regret never visiting and hope I do one day is The Shedd Aquarium. My favorite is the Museum of Science and Industry.

I so wanted to go to the Science museum ... didn't make it there though. Ex needed to walk everywhere, so took time with my ankle issues. I hope you get to go to the Aquarium -- the building itself was really impressive and there was plenty to see

Sounds like a good time, but I wouldn't go to Chicago. Too dangerous - according to others. But that's truw about taking a trip to get to know someone more. My bf and i took a trip to Detroit (also dangerous) when we were only together 1 year and 3months. It was miserable trip to and while there. Only got good on the way back as i was homesick and didnt care for his driving. And he just wasnt happy with me complaining about his driving lol. Thankfully it wasnt worse than that for us

@Courtlynn Oh! I'm sorry - I misunderstood your first post. I had thought it was an ex of yours. Well , at least you learned you don't like his driving. :-)

Probably true about danger if you're in the wrong area. We didn't run into too much -- and we saw a lot of the city by foot (fiancé's rules there.) -- some drunks asking us for money. Actually that was one of the discrepancies with my ex ... he liked to brag about growing up in Sydney (Australia) and running wild in the streets with a rough bunch, seeing everything, doing everything. However when the beggars were hitting us up for money - I would calmly tell that that I only had a charge card on me. And then they would leave me alone. Ex on the other hand would grab my hand and RUN AWAY full jolt ... hm. Odd for someone who had survived in the streets of Australia. I'm sorry your Detroit trip was bad. But at least you learned some stuff about the ex.

Never been there, but if it's good for David Sanborn, it's good enough for me.
Review by Scott Yanow A Change of Heart is a fairly typical '80s outing by the popular R&B-ish altoist David Sanborn. The main difference from his past work ...

@teamfreak16 Something tells me you'd be good at this game me and one of my friends play. If during course of discussion we say something that is similar to song lyrics - we sing it (the similar lyric)... if that made sense...

I have been downtown a couple of times and it was fun. We lived out in the burbs for five years and loved it. If you ever want to write about something fun... darling daughter took her father and I on a bus tour entitled, "Criminals, Mobsters and Gangsters!" One of my favorite birthday presents ever... Never did try the Chicago Popcorn though... :( Definitely need to go back!!

I heard that Chicago was the author's inspiration to write the Divergent series.

Oh interesting. I never thought of that, but I can see it. With the above-the-street train it reminded me of the "Blade RUnner" movie.

Thanks for this sight-seeing trip online - glad that it gave you fresh sight where your ex fiance was concerned. When I lived in New York years ago I was hooked on Dunkin Donuts.

Oh wow - New York city? I can't imagine living there, (Chicago either for that matter) though I would love to for a bit - for the experience of it. THanks, happy you enjoyed. :-)
