How does an atheist react to the words ... God Bless You?

Has it happened to you? I heard this guy talking to another and sneezed. A person in the room said, "God Bless You." I saw the look on his face. It was as if he was embarrassed by it.

I just thank them and move on. Easier than getting into an argument or something, and they are less likely to try to shove their belief's and lifestyle down my throat if they think I'm one of them.

I can't stand missionaries, either.

@MALUSE , Are you referring to Mormons or some other religion where people actually live at a mission?

Honestly, atheists do not care, unless they just want to argue. No one hates God that much, just hate the blind followers who question nothing.

I think atheist is a person who believes that he has rejected god's presence by using his logic. If he was embarrassed then it is not logic but being atheist more because it is "trendy" thing and peer pressure in his group. A logical person would feel so what..that is the belief of the person who has sneezed, not mine.

@MALUSE ... That is what I meant to say. :) If atheist sneezed and the believer said god bless you..atheist would brush it off.

No, it's the belief of the person who's heard the sneezer. The sneezer may be religious or an atheist, you'll never know.

I do not think they care. They have a right to believe in anyway that they want to.

But what if they sneeze too much? will they be so blessed as to become a saint?

I don't care. I just accept it as a polite wish.

Being polite shows that you do care though. , especially if the sneezer doesn't cover their sneeze!

I don't think he was embarrassed by the mention of God, but maybe by the sneezing. Just to say.. Because most of the times the nonbelievers don't care and it's okay. Everyone is entitled to their faiths. (*_*)

The only thing is, if you sneeze it is because you can't control it, like hiccups or a cough. So why don't we say God bless you to those as well?

@lookatdesktop yeah, good point. We can't call his name with something which is involuntary. If that were so, then we should call his name with every involuntary reflex. (*_*)

It hasn't happened to me,because here not that many people believe in God.Over here,if somebody sneezes, others may say some person speaks evil of him behind his back-it is only a joke.

I just say, "Gesunheit" @lookatdesktop . Which in German means healthy hood. At least it's not a true religious version. The true German for God Bless You is "Gott segne Sie!" It's just easier to say "Gesunheit".
