How Would You Describe Yourself?

How Would You Describe Yourself? Pretend that you are the main character in a book you are writing. Describe your character- your physical appearance and your personality. What would make your character someone that others would want to read about in a novel? This was a challenge in a writing class that I took years ago. I described myself as a talented person who loved to sing and play the piano. My dream, years ago, was to become a professional singer and many of my classmates thought that I would do just that. I used to sing with live bands and when I attended my 50th high school reunion, I sang for my classmates with the live band that had been hired for the occasion. I had no opportunity to practice with the band and my classmates were stunned when I surprised them by singing "Unchained Melody" with the band, although they knew that I had sang all through high school on the stage at school, with bands and even on TV. One said: “I just didn’t know you could STILL sing.” Now, I sing karaoke when I get the chance. If you would like to hear me sing one song on YouTube, follow this link:

I heard you sing once, I think it was the same link. You have a very nice voice. As for how I would describe me - She sits at a corner table alone in a crowded room, the music blaring, seeming oblivious to the music except for her toe tapping to the music. She's bent over some paper, writing with a concentration that seems to blot everything out, even the music except for that bit of telltale sign that she absently hears it. She has obviously dyed hair, hiding the gray beneath as she is definitely not a young chicken anymore. Hard to tell her age though, as she is still handsome, but could be more so if she would lose at least half her weight. There's a cane by her side, indicating she has trouble getting around. I wonder what she's writing and if it's any good. I wonder who she is and if she's anybody hidden behind that soft exterior. She looked up, saw me staring at her. Her glasses are a bit askew. I can't see the color of her eyes, but one look is enough to tell me she might be interesting at that. Okay, there you are.

That is FANTASTIC! Very descriptive. You should write a novel if you haven't done so yet.

@cahaya1983 Being a little mysterious is what I like too. Everyone doesn't need to know all about me, but sometimes I want people to realize that I'm MORE than just an older person. I'm someone who has traveled a lot. Someone who has a lot of experience in business matters and someone who can sing and I've also published a novel.

Being unpredictable could be a good thing, I guess. That way, other people don't always know what to expect from you. Keep them guessing.

Those are all GOOD characteristics! If you were a character in a novel, you would be a kind and honest person who helped others. A good basis for a good story.

@Courtlynn I am a published novelist with one novel published about two years ago. I'm working on another novel now. I enjoy creating the characters in my stories and describing their personalities, so that the reader can picture the person in their mind as they read.

I'm not a creative person but i would probably describe myself as one! I don't like showing people who i really am, i show a different person all the time. Only those i allow to get close to me do i show my real self.

I feel that no one really knows who I really am. My history, in particular. I have lived in different places and now my acquaintances know very little about where I have traveled and what I have accomplished in life.

I iistened to you and you sound like someone I heard before. You are very good. I would love to hear you sing unchained melody. Well, I will say something about me. My name is Hanni. I grew up in Minneapolis in a very cold climate in winter. I really was not very special while growing up until I came to Israel to live. I started becoming my own person and coming into my own. I took a course and thought I found what I really want to do but then I was not sure that was enough for me. I love computer graphics and buying toys and things because I feel like I am living my childhood now and have as much fun with the toys like kids do. Now, someone t old me about My Lot and I love it and am starting to figure out others things I would like to do too and also something else online where I can make some money. I do not know if this at all is what you are looking for. When I was 5 or 6 years old I would stand outside of my parent's business and say hi to all that would pass by me.
