Getting Old

When I was young I would see older people with a lot of complaints and ailments and a medicine cabinet full of prescriptions for what ailed them. Guess what - I'm in that older category now and I don't like it. My medicine cabinet isn't as full as some but still, I have monthly prescriptions that Walgreen's calls to let me know it's time to pick up. Now I'm sitting here wondering what the heck is going on now. For the past week I've had a mild pain in my stomach abdomen that I've completely ignored until yesterday. Mostly because it comes and goes. However, it mostly comes after I've had anything to eat. This pain also affects my back and makes it very hard to sit for long periods of time. Which is why I wasn't here as long as I normally was during the day. I couldn't sit more than an hour before the pain was unbearable. So I'm wondering if I can add ulcer to my list of complaints. I'm really hoping it will just go away and I won't need to bother with it. However, if it gets worse than the dull ache after meals, I'll call my doctor. Not something I want to do, which is most likely why I haven't before now. Man it's hard getting old. Expensive too.

I consider myself very lucky, I am 66 I take no medications and I have no major health issues, let's hope it will stay that way.

I hope it isn't an ulcer. I'm sure you don't want to add that to your other complaint/s. Certainly there isn't always a lot of fun in getting old.

No I don't. I always wondered why old people complained so much when I was a kid. Now I know.

Hopefully it's nothing serious! I agree, old age isn't any fun but I remember my mother saying that often.

I used to hear a lot of older folks saying it a lot when I was younger. Now it's my turn. I hope not too. It's been okay today, unless it's been masked by all the other pain I've been in today due to all the extra housework I did yesterday.

Yes, Tell me about it. Every day it seems like I have something new going on with my health. New aches and pains and no idea what is causing them. I'm going to the chiropractor this afternoon. He always helps my back. At least, at 75 years old, soon to be 76, I can still WALK and DRIVE and take care of myself. Recently, I've decided to get some things done, in case I die suddenly, so that my children will have an easier time . I've been cleaning out my house of everything imaginable and organizing my photographs and my poetry and art work. I still have a long way to go, but I've definitely made some progress this week, which is probably why my back is hurting. I've been lifting boxes and carrying things up and down the steps. My great grandson helped me one day and I'm hoping he will come back this week to help some more. I'm also getting all my important papers in order.

I keep putting that off. I know that's another thing I need to consider. I feel like I'm too young to think about that. I just renewed my driver's license. It renews again in 8 years and I'll be 72 at that time. I hope you have a Happy Birthday. Mine just was and it was a very good one.

You should see your doctor right away. It could be something serious that should be taken care of quickly. I hope it isn't anything serious but you never know.

True, it could be, but the pain doesn't last long enough for any doctor to find anything wrong at this point.

It seems like all the little things add up as one ages. Is the ache only after you eat certain foods?

I haven't paid attention to that. Yes, those little things do add up.

@FayeHazel I don't eat greasy food and haven't had anything chocolate for quite a while.

@just4him If you notice it's around greasy food, or chocolate maybe it's gallbladder... though I hope not. I've been having that for awhile...

Could also be Gall bladder if you still have yours. It is common for it to go bad in older women, I lost mine a few years ago already and so has my daughter.

It should go to a Doctor just in case it is serious.

It's not too bad right now. It never lasts long enough for a doctor to find anything wrong.

I'm hoping so. I have a feeling it's related to the stress I'm under trying to get this book finished again. It's going good, which makes me happy.

If I did, it would be like the boy calling wolf. They wouldn't find anything. The pain doesn't last very long.

I am on way too many medications for my age. It is really absurd. My husband saw the bag that I walked in with the other day and he was shocked. I was like "this is only SOME of them!" Is the pain high or low? If it is on the higher right side of things, it could be your gallbladder. That can flare up, especially after eating. Some people feel it in the front more but for me it was like someone was stabbing me in the back. I'm so glad that it is finally gone.

I've had gallbladder issues in the past. I still have it, the gallbladder, and this doesn't feel like that. It's dull not stabbing.

@NJChicaa I know the flare ups I've had were pretty bad, but I still have it. I haven't had a flare up in many years.

I understand what you are saying, believe it or not, you have really inspired me to take better care of myself. You have done this with all you have shared here at Mylot. I lost five pounds in six days and gave up soft drinks for that period of time. I may allow myself to have some when I go out to eat which I do not do very often. Actually, I think the doctor should take a look. I want you around for a long time.

Thanks. The pain has disappeared. I haven't felt it for a couple days now. So all is good. I haven't had a soda in almost a year. When I go out to eat, which isn't often, I get milk or water. The most I went out to eat was my birthday.

Do you have an appendix? Gallbladder? I don't like to mess around with those kinds of ailments, too many things it could be.

No appendix, that came out long ago. I only have the gallbladder left. I'm thinking it's stress related at the moment. I'm trying to get this book re-finished so it can be published.
