Construction in my house (with a cat)

Japan
July 24, 2017 8:12pm CST
My house is old for Japan and the floors have gotten kind of moldy underneath, so I have some workers in here who are replacing them. I was a little nervous about my cat getting under the floor while they are doing construction, but the cat is snoozing away while they hammer and bang in the other room. She just can't be bothered. Have you had construction in your house? If you have a pet, how did you take care of them?

I would keep an eye on my cat to make sure it does not get in the way.

I don't have a pet and don't have to worry as there is no construction too. May be I have to think if this would happen in near future then I shall take a good care of my pet

It probably is easier with no pet, but I love having pets and missed having them when I was in apartments that did not allow pets!

@manasamanu That's too bad. Maybe when you get your own place, you can have.

@petatonicsca I would like to raise pets too but my parents wouldn't allow me.

Cats don't like that. They will be terrified if there are a lot of strangers into a house and especially they are making the noisy construction work. Perhaps you shall put your cat into the cage for a while so that she will not run away because I am worried whether she will be back after that. Or put her into a pet hotel for a short time.

No, she is sleeping through it. So long as I keep the door closed she is fine. It bothers me more than it bothers her!

As soon as the family will buy a land property, there will be a construction of the house. For now, my pet lives in a dog house,

you definitely have a one-of-a-kind cat there who can sleep through all that noise and activity.

@petatonicsca oh, wow. she can even ignore earthquakes? what a supercat! what doesn't she like about typhoons, the thunder and lightning? how does she react?

She's a little goofball. During earthquakes all the other cats freak out and she just laid around. The one thing that she hates is bad weather, especially typhoons.

So far I am. They finish today. Couldn't work yesterday because of rain (they cut the boards outside).

We are renovating our bathroom. When my husband ripped up the flooring I worried that our cat would crawl inside. Thankfully we had the door closed at all times so she didn't get in. When we opened the door she got a little freaked out at the hole in the floor and ran in the opposite direction!

Normally the pet ran when the sound of the construction begins. Other wise we call him/her.

I'm surprised the cat wasn't freaking out @petatonicsca . Mine usually head for cover if something's going on.

Nah, she was just disappointed she couldn't go talk to the new people in the hall.

We only have a sheep so he doesn't really have any impact on anything we want to do.

@petatonicsca Yes, in a way but there is more grass than he can cope with. The kangaroos deal with the rest.

That's really cool. Does your sheep keep your grass cut?
