Kansas Summers

In Kansas we have quite a few hot summer days, often lasting into September. We are due for some record heat the next two days, then a brief cool down. The family that cut the hay across the road have finally come and gotten the five large round bales. It is usually two or three sons and the mother that do a lot of this work. They use a front end loader to pick up the hay and put it on a trailer. Other things we see are people mowing, and swimming at the pool. In the early morning or late evening you will see walkers. It will be 100 F by 1 pm today and not start to cool down until about 6. Again I had some insomnia and I am short of sleep. I will go lay down for just an hour, since I have eaten and had one cup of coffee. I know that on the other side of the globe you have cool weather right now, is it very cold or just moderate? I shall rest now, but need to make phone calls around 8 a.m., an hour and a half from now. Hope you are having a good day.

We should only hit 93 or 94 today, but the humidity is the killer. Maybe a cool-down over the weekend at 89.

@Ithink The weather patterns keep changing. We have not had very much "winter" here in Kansas in the last two years.

It's already cooled down here. On the radio they said it was only 17°C. Inside the thermostat says 68°F. I'm actually wearing socks and a sweater! Oh well, I guess I won't be sweating when I go out to work on the yard. That is, if it doesn't start raining again. It's amazing how fast the grass and weeds grow when it pours buckets every couple days!

@BarBaraPrz We have had rain since I posted this, and I have not gotten it mowed yet. I have been busy moving furniture toward the goal of making an office in one of the large bedrooms. I was setting up a small bed in the back half of the room. I thought about setting up a sleeper sofa, but I already had the bed, so I am doing that. I have put a large bed in the small bedroom where the small bed was. When my daughter visits there are five or six guests that need beds.

@GardenGerty Luckily, it didn't start raining again and I got a lot done. I was so tired, I got ready for bed at 7:30! But then I started doing something inside and worked for another couple hours rearranging some furniture and putting away some things I hadn't unpacked yet.

I often think of your country as being cool..So you are telling me it is more like mine. Of course things can be unusual at times too. Our brief cool down has lasted all week.It is August but our weather is more like October.

I lived in Kansas for for three years or so. Before that I was in Iowa, that is where I grew up. I do remember those hot and humid days. Take care and try to stay cool.

@rebelann It sounds a lot like Western Kansas, which would be not too far north from you, just across the Oklahoma Panhandle, I am thinking.

A lot of people say the same thing @GardenGerty many of the military families from the southeastern states say they like the dry heat but not the fact that it's so dusty all the time plus they miss the trees and greenery.

I think back home in Western Australia they are not getting as much rain as they would like but that seems par for the course the last few years.

I think the weather definitely goes in cycles. I have not been here in this spot long enough to figure out the pattern.

I am shocked if its not hot here. I am sure the guys have mowed and baled hay three or four times already this year in the fields behind me. It has rained so much the hay crops are thriving if nothing else is. I think I will make that pepper jelly and maybe later some of the watermelon jelly by @Ithink

They only let it get hay high once. The rest of the time they keep it mowed so the community can play disc golf.
