You surely wouldn't eat it, would you?

I know someone who has a big freezer and gave someone they knew some food from their freezer. The person who received it was shocked because after they got home and really started looking at some of the food, some of the dates were really past the expiration date. For example: a box of pancake mix had a March 2009 expiration date. A never opened sealed pack of macaroni and cheese had a 2013 expiration date and some Rotini noodles had a 2011 expiration date. The person received it recently this year. Even though these foods had been never opened and stored in a freezer, they were scared to eat them and threw them away. I would have thrown them away too. Those dates are way too old even though the food was frozen. What do you say?

I think that we must check well before giving food to others. I would have thrown those foods away too. This family could have got food poisoning if they hadn't checked the expiry date.

Yes one would have to be very careful with foods given. It is often the case here in food banks and churches..foods that are years past the expiration date. Poison.

Yes they should not have been kept frozen so long. On the Internet they give times for food to be frozen and I believe in year is the most.

That is true, year at the most.

No I would not eat that either. I have a limit on frozen foods because they tend to freezer burn and that is not a good taste. My veggies, if sealed with a vacuum sealer, I will keep over a year. Meat not that long. What people do not understand is that when a product has the expiration date of 2009, that means it was made 4 -5 years earlier.

I say why did they keep mac/cheese packs in the freezer to begin with? There is no point putting things like that in a freezer. I certainly wouldn't eat any of that stuff. They need to do some research on freezing food and shelf life.

I agree. I guess they thought freezing it would double the shelf life of mac and cheese. They do need to take a lesson on shelf life and frozen food storage.
