Each summer, the Manitou library hosts a weekly Summer Lawn Concert Series, with local acts taking the stage each Tuesday evening. Tonight, a reggae band played, so you know I was there. Mo' Mungus was tonight's band, playing a mixture of rocksteady, reggae, and ska, with emphasis on the rocksteady (rocksteady is a style of Jamaican music that came after ska, but before reggae. It was very popular in Jamaica for about two years.) The band plays both original songs (I love local bands that play original music) and covers (their Bob Marley cover was "Caution.") About an hour into the show, it started raining, a light, yet steady rain. The band covered their equipment and took a break, resuming their set about ten minutes later. I quite enjoyed their show. Live reggae on a perfect, albeit a little rainy, summer evening is tough to beat. I linked to one of their original songs ("it's on the CD," as the guitarist was fond of saying.) If nothing else, watch it for footage of some classic television dance scenes.
Who is Mo' Mungus, what is Rocksteady, and how do you dance to it? Well -- watch this highly educational video lesson and you will know! (Song: Mo' Mungus pe...

That's so cool! Certainly defeats that stereotype of librarians running around going, "Shhhhhh," doesn't it!

It sure does. One of the librarians even introduced the band.

I love watching and listening to a live band. There is no lipsync.

Thanks for sharing this. Will check it out in a bit. Sounds like my type of gig. Relaxed and laid back except when they play songs that make get up on my feet and do a shuffle of two!

There have been a lot of concerts on around here but we haven't managed to get to one yet. Hopefully we'll make it to one before we leave France.

That would be fun. Maybe some jazz. France has a huge jazz scene.

Reggae is pretty big here. There used to be a great reggae bar in Denver. It was there for a long time.
