My daughter just got back home after a week of testing at the Mayo Clinic. She was sent there to find out what in the world is going on with her body. She had several artery dissections and they really needed to know why. They thought it was due to some kind of connective tissue disorder. It turns out that she has fibro-muscular dysplasia. I am not yet sure exactly what this is but you can bet I will find out. What I do know so far is, it is a genetic disorder. She was told to tell us, myself and her sisters, so we could inform our doctors. It looks like we might end up being tested soon. I am beginning to wonder if this year is every going to end. Things keep happening, we keep getting unhappy news. I am so concerned about my daughter. I hope she will be ok.

Prayers to you and her. At least you know what is going on now, so how do they treat this condition?

I am not too sure how they treat it. I have heard that she will be taking a blood thinner. I will let everyone know when they sort out everything.

I know the feeling of will this ever end. I had a so so year last year and this year so far started off not so good. I hope what she has is treatable and not life threatening.

I know that feeling of not knowing what is going on and what causes it. I hope you can find out what type of disease this is and how it's going to effect her life and yours if you all have it. Glad she was able to get some answers though and hope they can help her with medicine or something.

With it being diagnosed now she has half the battle over in my estimation. I think knowing what you have is a wonderful thing. Then with treatments and/or meds I hopt she will be much better now.

I am sorry for your daughter, I know what fibromuscular dysplasia is. It is a condition that causes narrowing or enlargement of the medium-sized arteries in the body. This can cause a certain number of problems, I think this is the reason why you should be checked by your doctor. My husband has enlarged arteries, but it's not too bad.

@HazySue He has an enlarged aorta in the abdomen, that must be monitored because a rupture of this aorta will be extremely dangerous and would need immediate surgery. He is not allowed to move heavy weights.

@LadyDuck I wish him luck with this disease. It does sound dangerous. I understand that this disease also causes blood clots.

It's a mixed blessing. There's all the testing and treatment, but there's the "comfort" of knowing what it is. In my case with my gallbladder, NOT knowing was as bad as the pain! Prayers for your daughter and you.
