What would you like to hear about?

What should I tell you about today? Maybe the mob of cattle that we followed along the road for a while, or, at Mirondol, a pack-donkey we saw accompanying several hikers and helping to lessen their load or marvellous railway bridge with magnificent arches spanning a road at the same place, or the memorial to some of the workers who died during its construction? Then there was the magnificent dam and hydro-electric station or the castle which almost collapsed when it began it sink into the coal mines underneath. They numbered all the stones in the tower and reassembled it bit by bit. So many great things we’ve seen today. I guess the photo that needs the least words is the one of the donkey tagging along quietly with his load. It's not totally focussed but we weren't expecting to see it. It was a lovely day to be out for a walk and the donkey looked quite happy with his lot. As you might have guessed, we’re pretty happy with our lot at the moment too.

I've seen that one - and I've a remote-controlled car go into a horse-yard and a horse stomped on it.

@JudyEv .. Proves horses are paranoid...and cows believe in fighting the problem collectively.

I never realized that there were so many donkeys in the French countryside almost makes me think of Botswana where they roam freely all over the place

Where we're staying at the moment there are at least five places offering donkey rides, visits, petting, etc. I can imagine there are dozens in Africa and dozens in Luxor too. The Muslims don't believe in castrating the males so they're forever breeding.

We could have done a half-day walk with a donkey. I wish now that we'd done that.

@judyev Surely you must be drunk on adventure by now. I was indoors all day wrestling with Irish verbs. Interruption by a donkey would have been most welcome.

Are Irish verbs worse than French ones? I can only remember the present tenses which is a bit limiting.

I think sometimes they take huge tourists up the hills too, don't they? I know one donkey charity was trying to bring in a 'load limit'.

We've worked out they would have been following the trail Robert Louis Stevenson took when he wrote 'Travels with a Donkey' but I need to do a bit more research on that. Luckily Vince has a bit better photo but it's of the tail-end.
