A MOTHER's GRIEF

They lived next door to me in my old neighborhood - a woman and her 12-year-old son. I would see him leaving for school in the morning looking very smart in his khakis. He was a friend of my son - so after leaving that neighborhood I kept in touch with his mother and shared her pride when he graduated with honors from a local university then went overseas to further his studies.
Sad to say, I received news over the weekend that he had died of a drug overdose. He was her only son , with a bright future ahead of him. How do we protect our children from the scourge of drugs? Is it even possible to do so ? I suppose all any parent could do is warn their kids from an early age about the many pitfalls out there - especially when they attend colleges and universities.

Oh I am so sorry to hear this Kandase. RIP the son.
There really is no way to protect them once they get out in the world.
We can warn them of the dangers, but once they are gone away from us, then...
It is a worry.

Too many toss life out the door with their behavior. Always sad @Kandae11 and not too much people can do to stop this behavior.

@Kandae11 that is so sad. there is a saying that children should bury their parents, rather than parents burying their children.

So sorry. I feel so bad for her and can't even imagine what she is going through. It happens far too often.

It is so sad.. once the children grow up, the parents can only warn them, and hope they will listen.

I'm sorry for your friend's loss, I cannot imagine how she feels to have lost him.
There's a feeling, but no real words to describe it when as a parent we bury one of our children.
But to bury a child as the result of an overdose, that I cannot fathom.
Sadly, having lost a child, I can relate to the loss itself, and her life will never ever be the same and people will forever look at her differently.

It is so sad to hear that. All we can do is talk to our kids and look for signs hopefully before it gets to that stage

Oh so sorry!
The children are taught at home but once they are on their own they do as they please, they are adults so its not the mothers fault at all.
