I think it must get windy here

Two nights ago, we stayed some 1200 metres above sea level and for the first time since we came to France in May we were quite cold at night. We also think it must get very windy here as all the permanent or semi-permanent places had their annexes very firmly fixed to the ground. Mostly people just use tent pegs but here, every annex had large rocks placed right round the edges. We were pleased to get up and moving next morning but by last night we were much warmer and back into T-shirts and shorts. Today has been hot and we've spent four hours at Port de Gard which was very interesting. Quite a lot of steps and walking again but we need to be walking off the baguettes.

I understand wind, it can be such a pain and sometimes it's very scary. Those rocks in the photo don't look big enough to keep that tarp in place if the winds get really rough.

It wasn't the best example to choose. One of the other annexes had boards then big rocks on top of the boards.

Winds are always unpredictable and boy is it hard to protect property if it isn't solidly built @JudyEv

@judyev It's a wonder so many French people are skinny with so much good good around. Many of them are so self-controlled.

We've seen some bigger people too but maybe that's all the tourists who are not used to so much good food.

I know little about pegs or rocks for annexes, but one must do what they feel is necessary. Good for you to be walking so much!

Some of the sheds on the farms have huge rocks on the roof too which sort of suggests high winds.

There were a lot of people at the Pont de Gard. It was well organised but quite commercial.

I can understand that. Here, you have to wear a jacket at night in the mountains.

We had our jumpers on before we went to bed but we should have fished out our warm 'jamas.

I hate it especially when it gets cold at night. We usually put large rocks on the edges of tent here too. Glad to hear that it's warmer now. Enjoy your holidays

The wind can create havoc with tents can't it?

Your travels sound such fun. Those are some big rocks holding that awning down. It is also windy where I am in the UK today.

Some had even bigger rocks all round the base of their tent. We never leave our annex up overnight as it is just a roof and we can't peg it down.

Glad you're enjoying the holiday in France. I love the wind (but not too strong), especially in hot and humid weather that we have all year.

Many of the camps there looked to be permanent ones so they would have to be able to withstand some pretty wild weather.

Thanks. It was nice to have an evening that was a bit colder. I find it hard to sleep if the night is hot.
