I am not innocent

Wow there are protests. Letters of no way! coming in. Coming in where? Coming in to the folks who have decided that the police can issue you a whopping fine for not only driving with a cell phone in your hand BUT also for having food or drink in that hand. Yes. You can. You will get a cop with lights flashing if you drive with the hand off the wheel and on the hamburger. And, like I said, there are deeply felt protests and you can't fine me for that!! I found out, in Overeater's Anonymous meeting after Overeater's Anonymous meeting, that food is a substance, just like alcohol. Yup. Both are ingested. Yes. I can die Death by Burger. Sounds hilarious. Is not. If my right hand is messing with a burger and just that quick that burger squirts catsup or mayo or a pickle onto my blouse and I deal with it instead of that suddenly stopped vehicle or that suddenly there!! human, its tragedy. Not comedy. Just sick tragedy. But, like I said, I am not innocent. I've driven many a mile pulling goodies out of a bag, munching, staying awake, whatever the excuse, I've done it.

Even if paying attention, the food substances on your hands can keep you from being able to grip the wheel, and yes, I am guilty as well. I had a friend who got broadsided by someone eating a bowl of oatmeal while driving.

@GardenGerty A bowl of oatmeal?? Years ago I saw a woman- driving on a major highway- applying make up. Her head was even tilted back.

Afew years back a woman using a cell phone was driving with her elbow. She lost dontrolof her car on the freeway and caused a pile up of six other cars. She was killed and her daughter badly hurt. The pill up caused three nore deaths

@Hatley At first that sounds hilarious but obviously it wasn't. I'm sorry for all those innocent people.

@jstory07 Oh that puts a grim light on the scenario. How awful.

My ex used to use his knees to drive while eating. Made me very nervous. It's not good when lives are involved.

@celticeagle That's emotional cruelty and should be a crime as much as physically hitting you.

@celticeagle Did he do that while you were in the car and he knew you were upset by it? That's passive aggressive behavior. Blech.

For years here in Tahiti it has been the law that you can not drive talking on your cell phone. However, people don't care and do it anyhow. Now the fine has gone way up and if you are caught 3 times for this you will lose your privilege to drive a car for a year.

@sallypup Oh yes, there have been. I was sitting in traffic and a guy hit my rear end because he was talking on his phone. Lucky for me it did not damage my car.

To me, I think it might be a good idea for people to not eat or drink while driving. However I am guilty of do it too.

I have always hated it when people eat and drive. They have not, like me, been at the bedside of a very pretty friend who did this and wrapped her car around a tree. She was not at all beautiful for a long time after that and is very lucky not to have had some serious facial scarring, let alone the fact she thankfully did not kill the people she was carrying at the time. I go ape over food and mobiles at the wheel.

@Jackalyn We get so comfortable in our rolling living rooms then forget that we're actually in control of a large and powerful machine. I also do not like it when I see folks driving with a little dog on their lap. Not cool.

I guess it takes coordination and talent to keep on driving and eating. We don't have a car now but when I lived in the states the only time I stuffed my face was if I was in the passenger seat. I somehow imagined ending my life while chocking on some food and crashing into something and I sure didn't want to go that way
