Speaking of novels and fiction... Why the female protagonist have to be so self-deprecating? Or self-conscious? or have low self-esteem? WHY? Even if she is a confident woman then she still has to be a stubborn and have this annoying I can take care of myself stuff so thoroughly ingrained that she is unable to differentiate between a concern and an order? or even manipulation? This almost everytime lead her to getting hurt herself or someone close to her. Dude! If only you would have listened and put the "pride" away for a bit. Then there is the male protagonist. He either has to be a rude and arrogant fellow or a player. What happened to normal every day guys? (Photo by Pixabay

Hmmm... I believe, Reine, that if every female protagonist was a fighter, I would call her an antagonist instead of protagonist! I was married to two different antagonists, so I know what I am talking about!

But is he tiny and furry? And does he crawl on your tummy and only poop on you occasionally?

Not the arrogant ones I don't like them either but occasionally you do need one of these types
Where have all the good men gone and where are all the gods? Where's the streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds? Isn't there a white knight upon a fier...

I always thought a great writer could take a normal everyday person and turn their tale into something worthy for the masses. Most people see themselves as just normal, mundane or drab even but that is only because no one has as yet made them see themselves the way others do.

@VivaLaDani13 We can hire a "profanity filter". I will keep the original though lol I can only imagine how the book will turn out.

My biggest why is why do I over think everything? Or why do I second guess every decision I make? My head hurts now...

Contemporary fiction in our country is exactly that...written by somebody who failed to make grade in education, got his or her degree from some unrecognized university...has a nagging wife and keeps imagining what he would like in his wife, and pours it all down in the characters. There are many characters portrayed normally by Sarathchandra (though he shows women to be extraordinarily good many a times), and Rabindranath Tagore. Generally, people write what they want to see in the character.

@cahaya They could if written and portrayed just right. Needs a writer who has ways with his/ her words that go straight to heart.

Books and stories written using normal everyday people would not be very entertaining, so the author would not be making much money since his/her books would not sell... (I hope this makes sense to you, Dearheart!) Now, please don't misunderstand me... It IS possible to write a book where the assumptive roles used in a majority of manuscripts is changed to give an imitation of "nice" people and STILL have a finished product that will make decent sales... but it is much more difficult to write and may not take the author to the exact same place in the end. I've noticed that many of the more successful authors don't actually write their manuscript(s) from beginning to end, as people may believe. The majority of successful authors actually start their manuscript(s) at the end of the story and then bring all the elements needed at the denouement in at different places throughout the manuscript(s). Apparently, this simplifies the writing process and streamlines it at the same time. How have you been, hon? I noticed you haven't been here very much, so I was starting to worry about you! (I actually had started writing an email to you, so I am glad I found you here on myLot! I have gotten out of the habit of sending emails if I am not forced to do that!)

@Daljinder Oh, my! I did not mean to make you actually think, DJ! (very concerned!) Did the thinking overheat your brain? Should I ask vanny to call an ambulance to your home for you? (I am so sorry! I will try not to do that again!) Now that I have gotten the teasing out of my system, let me see what I can tell you... (still grinning at you, though!) Yes, I am familiar with that phrase... and the way it can make people behave, too. SMH! Yes, the way you describe how you write a book is very similar to what I was trying to describe to you, hon! That is how several professional authors have told me they write their books!! (Uhm... two of them told me they do not actually put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard until a publisher has said they are interested in the outline the author has described. I am not sure how they actually do that, though.) vanny said you were sick, or at least I believe that is what she told me. I am sorry you were hurt in an accident, Dearheart! (I believe what you are describing is called a deep bone bruise here. Is that close to what it was called there?) I am sure you were kept very busy, with your family hoping to keep your mind off what had happened and off your injuries, too. That is what I would have been doing if Pretty were hurt like that. Just remember, please, I love you very much! Please be more careful of your safety in the future.

@DaddyEvil Eh..I understand what you said in the first paragraph and the second one. I was wondering because these overblown characters raise the expectations we have in real life. You must know the "looking through rose coloured glasses" phrase. And I don't know about simplifying the writing process but IF I write a story, I picture scenes in my head with an ending already set. Then I arrange all that like little puzzle pieces in correct order and fill in the blanks while writing. I haven't tried let the story flow as they come. But it sounds interesting that way because it will come as a surprise to me too and the characters will evolve with me. SMH! Now you have me thinking! I know I have been absent. It was end of or beginning of June I think...I was in an accident. I had bruised ribs and Three deep gashes on my knee which needed stitches. The bone wasn't broken but it did left me confined to bed for over 20 days way past the time stitches came out. After that, I haven't had a moment of peace at home. There has been one thing or the other.
