Please don't laugh at me. Laugh with me. I know it's only July and it's too soon to be in the Christmas holiday spirit but ... One of my favorites songs for this particular holiday season is ... what else? ... "The Christmas Song". Nobody can sing it better than the man with the velvet voice, the late Nat King Cole {FYI: Nathaniel Adams Coles (March 17, 1919 – February 15, 1965)}. { For your listening pleasure. youtu.be/dhzxQCTCI3E } For years, I never even knew the name of this song. For me the title was "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire". Love this song! Never once in my life ever saw chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Never even saw a picture of chestnuts roasting or roasted on an open fire. We didn't have a fireplace in any of the homes we lived in when I was growing up and my mom never roasted them in the oven. When I finally got my own home with a fireplace, it never occurred to me to go out to the store, buy some chestnuts and roast them! (Sigh.) It was nothing more than a beautiful dream. Until now! Found a picture of roasted chestnuts! It uplifted my spirits somehow. Put me in such a good mood, just gotta share it!! Can't keep this wonderful feeling all to myself, can I?

Here in the Philippines once the -ber months hit, you'll be seeing Christmas decors go up and hearing Christmas songs and carols played on the radio!

I never knew Nat King Coles full name was Nathaniel Adams Cole. It sounds like a different person!

It does doesn't it? I'm always fascinated by the professional names that celebrities use. Sometimes when you learn their real names, you wonder if they apologize to their parents. Like "Sorry mom and dad! But can't use this name y'all gave me to get ahead!" Some of them have names that you know would have killed their career before it was even started. However, I must say, that Nat King Cole's real name isn't all that bad. But it is more of a mouth full to say than Nat King Cole. Plus the "king" part of the name really suited the guy. He was the king of the crooners back in his day. When people like "old blue eyes", Frank Sinatra, pay you respect, you know you're good!!

@cmoneyspinner It always amazed me that Engelbert Humperdinck did so well. You'd think that name would be a handicap.

@JudyEv - Yeah! And Engelbert Humperdinck was so good looking! Somehow that name didn't suit his looks at all. But it didn't matter. Somebody who looked like him and sang like him, you would remember no matter what their name was!

LOL. They have this saying about classic literature. Classics are the books on everybody's library shelf that nobody reads. Roasting chestnuts must be a beloved Christmas tradition that nobody ever practices.

It has been a long time since I had roasted chestnuts. I think I was in Springfield, MA and some friends and I bought them from a street vendor. Or were we in Boston. It's been so long I can't be sure. I know they were good, though.

Boston? No surprise that there would be a street vendor selling roasted chestnuts. A street vendor in Texas? Doubt that'll ever happen!

There is always one who has to mention Christmas in July lol! 149 days 11 hours 59 minutes until Christmas day apparently! It will soon be here though I know that much. I don't think there is anything wrong with being in the Christmas spirit in july,,, it is nice to see, I want to try and get there this year, the past few years Christmas has been horrible. Keep spreading your Christmas cheer, it might help me get into the spirits myself :-)

I am like you. Certain things will come up and I will start thinking about Christmas. I already have some of my shopping done. I am mainly down to the grandchildren. All but one is old enough that they prefer money. Well they will get money but it will be my way. I plan to get each of them a few tiny, inexpensive gifts and put some money in each gift. Beings I have 8 grandchildren I won't be able to give them a bunch but I know they will be happy.

Just thinking about things that make you happy is a tremendous blessing, isn't it? But that whole time of the year - i.e. the last 3 months, October, November and December - I always feel extra blessed and extra joyful! Hey! Why not? I made through a whole year with only 3 months to go!
