Mommy You Don’t Love Me Anymore – What’s This Crawling Around in My Food?

Eyes barely open, as I stumble out bed. Caesar is there waiting for me as usual. He is demanding his dry cat food. I reach in the bag and grab out a handful. Like always he tries to block his dish so I can’t put the food in.
He takes one look and starts to rudely complain. He comes back over to me and swats me with his tail and demands me to look in his bowl. I loudly complain, I just gave you food. He stands over his dish looking at me complaining that he can’t eat this food.
OK, OK, what is wrong? I take a look in his dish and ants are crawling around. Oh yes, my poor cat was right. There was something crawling around in his food this morning.
Where Caesar eats I don’t have ants. However, this morning his dish was filled with them. Normally my boyfriend is the first to feed the cat when he stands up. Looks like he forgot to clean the bowl this morning.

That is a smart cat haha my dad's dogs literally do not care what happens to their food. But I always clean their bowls before filling them.

@poehere If we wash our dishes, shouldn't we also do it for pets? Haha, sadly I don't get to do this all the time. Just went I dog sit

Normally I pick up the food dish at night and put it in the sink. I think this morning my boyfriend was still sleeping when he stood up to make his morning coffee. He has to leave out of here around 5 in the morning and I know this morning he was running a little late. I just cleaned the bowl and gave the cat a new one with fresh food. I hate ants crawling on me so there is no need to try and pick them out of his food.

That was certainly cause for complaint. My Sid loves having dry food for dinner but breakfast means wet food in the folly packages he just loves that. Talking about eyes open he demands breakfast at 3 AM and I am the designated feeder. So I plop the stuff in his bowl and fall back into bed. If there was anything in his bowl I too would not have seen it.

That one is funny. my cat eats whenever he wants. I have never given him a lot of food at once. I just put a small amount in his bowl. The reason behind all of this is because the little dogs love to eat the rest of his food. One of my dogs was getting so fat from this I had to put him on a diet and that one wasn't fun at all.

He just was trying to tell you he was not going to eat ants. If he wanted ants to eat, he would go out and find ants. He wanted ant free food. And if he could talk he probably would ask you how you would like ants crawling around in your food?

@poehere It seems to becoming a trend (at least here in the US) to eat bugs (cooked). There are companies that can them. They even have flour made from bugs. Of course I have heard of chocolate covered ants ever since I was a child.

Yes my cat wasn't so happy with me for not checking his bowl. I cleaned his bowl and gave him new food and he was so happy with me after this.

@celticeagle Right, I hate to clean ants out of the bowl and throwing away all the food. Not often does the cat boal have ants in it. But now and then it happens.

Uhm... he had a right to complain if he had ants crawling around in/on his food dish, Ann! Poor kitty!
I won't use a plate or silverware if ants are or have been on it since it was washed, either!

I am the same way. Normally his bowl is washed every morning. I put the bowl away at night so our uninvited huose guess don't eat his food. I guess my boyfriend was in too much of a hurry to wash his bowl. That is why the ants came to eat his food that morning.

Ann, that is horrible. We have them in the summer and I clean my Sophie's bowl and I tried everything and they keep coming back.

@dgobucks226 Hahahaha. That is the dogs in our house. Now they are forbidden in the house when we eat. My boyfriend has a bad habit of feeding them at the table. This is a no no for me and I don't like it. Now I put them outside when we eat.

@depromise No, he was always a smart one from the beginning. I got him when he was only 4 weeks old.
