Area 51

Everyone knows about the mystery of Area 51 in Nevada that started back in 1955 regarding supposed UFO's. Recent CIA files released in 2013 don't mention those but they do talk about certain aircraft that were designed at that location. With our little tiffs with Russia back in the day, Lockheed designed the U2 to fly over Russia at 13,000 ft to determine what types of military might that they had. It turns out though that Russia was able to spot the U2 which brought about a new aircraft; the A12 (Oxcart), which was coated in Titanium allowing us to fly over without detection. Now being that Titanium was really only available in Russia, in 1968 a Russian pilot stole a MIG 21 and brought it to the US. The main reason being that our pilots were not as savvy as Russian pilots in fighting capabilities. In the mid 70's, the CIA turned over Area 51 to the Air Force to make advancements in aircraft so they would not be detectable from the air. Project Havblue was a new subsonic jet that was invisible to radar and less visible. Following advancements in non-detection came the F-117 (Nighthawk) used in two Iraqui Wars and then came the Stealth which was covered in RAM (Radar Absorbent Material), which allowed our planes to be invisible. Area 51 has and is still in use with new hangers, runways and buildings and the B2, Raptor and Drones are still being advanced for use in war. So even though UFO's may not be part of the mystery, Area 51 is still guarded in secrecy.

@LadyDuck Sorry about that. Roswell has been converted into doing what is going on in Nevada. The same type of secret programs.

It seems we may never know what really went on. The truth is often hidden from us, isn't it?

I'd not heard of Area 51, so your first sentence is untrue. However you give a lot of interesting information here, you must have done a lot of research.

@jaboUK It makes it scary because you never know when something sets the govt off and the next thing you know the military takes over.

It had always been a fascination of mine @jaboUK because I 'knew' there was stuff going on there that the general public had no clue about. The US govt. likes to keep it's people deaf, dumb and blind. I'm probably on their "red" list (which ain't good). Just like a lot of air bases that closed in the 90's have been turned into concentration camps. The fencing surrounding the supposed 'closed' bases have the barbed wire pointing inward not outward and a lot of military personnel still guard the perimeters.

That is fascinating stuff and I hope they are coming up with sophisticated defense weapons and a way to stop North Korea without getting South Korea obliterated.
