Hackers are always on something to either hack or destroy your personal data by any means. And now they are out with something that will completely destroy your system whether it be your Laptop, Desktop PC or your Mobile Phone. They have developed a device that looks exactly as your normal Pendrive but the internal circuits have been manipulated to create a short circuit to what ever system it is being attached and disable it permanently. There a many videos on the YouTube where people are demonstrating what happens when you attach a Killer USB to any device, the worst part is there are some videos which show how you can create a Killer USB at home. Now you don't need a hacker, it could be your close friend who might be just testing his newly created Killer USB at home and you might never guess what the reason was that your mobile or laptop just gave up. Don't trust unknown USB Devices over your valuable Systems and Mobiles, it could either be a Virus or a Killer USB that might leave your valuables good for nothing.

Any new USB device is unknown, no ? So, a paranoid should better never use any USB device. Seriously, it is not something new, it is more than 2 years old now, and it is possible to buy a USB port protection (in fact, just another fuse) for about $15. Using a $5 or $10 USB hub will also probably prevent to damage a computer.

Would a USB hub be something similar to an adapter between the two? I've not heard of using a hub before. I wonder whether USB's with the killer code on them would be ones not purchased in stores but possibly given to the user in some other manner without it being enclosed in some type of packaging. I'd think that those sold by familiar manufacturers and still intact in their original packaging wouldn't be an issue.

@topffer It might be 2 years old but the way its being shown on the YouTube it seems a new invention. Anyways a $15 investment would be better then blowing up the whole unit.

@MarshaMusselman USB hub is an extension wire which has multiple USB connectors on the other end. It basically works if you have only a single USB port on your device. A USB hub would prove useless for protection against Killer USB it wont act as shield. And yes you need not worry of being sold one without your knowledge they are made with the circuit either being purchased online or created at home.

@TiarasOceanView Even I was not aware of such things it was one day while on YouTube that I came across it. There are few fools who even demonstrated how it works on their devices.

Oh, I really dislike it when people invent something destructive. Good thing is I'm not fond of using USB's other than my own. And I'm planning to buy a new computer that doesn't have a usb port.

@nitirrbb7 I just made an order for a new MacBook pro 2017 model and it doesn't have a usb port. I've been planning to buy that for a month now since my old MacBook pro is retiring.

@toniganzon First congratulations for your new MacBook, second you proved me wrong that it would be hard to find a device without USB port, it was obvious as I never have used any MacBook earlier. And one more thing how will you manage if you have something to transfer via a USB to the MacBook?

@toniganzon Same here don't like it either, its good that you avoid using others. But finding a computer without a USB Port is like finding a needle in a bunch of hay, I wont say it won't be but still.

@louievill You are most welcome and it was my responsibility to make people aware of it. It would be nice if you make your kids aware of this because kids are innocent and they might never guess of such harmful things might ever come their way.
