Diary Friday 4th August 2017 A busy day today. The weekly community centre Fair Trade food deal with local stores, bakeries and supermarkets that allows members to collect a single full bag of groceries that are close to their sell by dates (to spare throwing them away) for a very low payment was today. Normally it is Tuesdays but they had to move it this week. Gaining lots of food stuffs, I dropped them off at my flat quickly as some needed refrigerating or freezing. I then returned to the centre as I was their Friday afternoon guest speaker giving my talk on comics and their history. You may have seen articles here gleamed from my notes for this well received highly nostalgic and the audience were delightful. A few referred to comics Iā€™d missed, the Daily Mirror Jane comics of the forties with a heroine who ended up constantly accidentally losing her clothes (skirts snagging on tree branches, etc.) and the family portrait cartoons by Giles for the Daily Express which often touched on politics too. Diary Saturday 5th August 2017 A day in, relaxing, writing up notes for future talks, sleeping and watching TV. Diary Sunday 6th August 2017 House work, laundry job searching online and more of the same stuff I did yesterday. Arthur Chappell

Most of our supermarkets sell the food at 50% the day before expiration. I buy and I freeze, it is still perfectly good to consume. I did my laundry this morning, now I should iron, but I am procrastinating.

@arthurchappell It is a shame to throw the food, it could be offered to charities, at most to animal shelters, never thrown.

@LadyDuck A great deal is still destroyed and wasted. Too many traders think that if they can't make profit on it no one should have it

the idea of close to expiration foods and a cheap get them day would really be helpful for me atm, quite a neat idea

@Jessicalynnt it can be quite demanding - I have occasionally found I can't even afford a bread or a particular food I would have enjoyed - good luck
