3 Interviews From 3 Countries

My neighbor is applying for teaching positions overseas. One time, he got responses from 3 different countries - USA, Africa and Central America. Personally, I'd choose Central America. I don't know why, but when it comes to the Americas, I've always been more curious about Central and South America, than North America. Did you ever receive job offers one after another, or after you've already accepted one? Would you choose a lower paying one as long as it's in a location, or industry, or position that you really like?

I think its a combination of many like we may prefer the better paying one but then we need to pay extra rent for that and if we took the less paying one then we may have some benefits of less rent

Your neighbor is very lucky. If I were to choose I would choose high paying jobs because I'm tired of low paying position here in our country.

I been to interviews in my country only, once I was trying to get to Macau for casinos position but I did not manage to pass the interview. I think I will take it if it offers me interesting location and salary.

Africa and Central America aren't countries. Africa has 55 countries. Each country has its own history and current problems. Some are English-speaking, others are French-speaking. Central America is Spanish-speaking. I'd consider all this before deciding where to go.

@hereandthere That may well be. But in order to decide in which country I want to live, I need to know something about the reality of the country outside the school building.

I would go out to venture when I'm young. I want stability when I am older.

That's cool for your neighbor to get such job offers. I think working in USA will be a good choice. As the salary will be better and the working conditions will be formal. It can protect teh employees well. And basically it is a safe country.

Did you ever receive job offers one after another, or after you've already accepted one? got accepted for a CS Supervisory work at Costa Rica. Declined it to stay here in the country. Would you choose a lower paying one as long as it's in a location, or industry, or position that you really like? I guess I would but it really depends on the which country the job posting is.

This never happened to me while I was working, but back then I'd only deal with one company at a time . . . I didn't go on to the next until it was confirmed I got the job or didn't. I didn't have layers of pending job offers. At this point in my life, I'd rather have my own business at home if I could .

@hereandthere Well, I don't want to go back to doing what I used to do . . . I do not enjoy doing art/design for clients. I really think I'd rather have my own art based business from home . . . or that I could take with me on a laptop. Art/design as a freelancer is not lucrative anymore, as my college classmates have filled me in . . . in-house jobs are a hard find especially for a woman with young kids (I still have another decade until they are "grown") . . . the field is very competitive and filled with young folks.

@much2say your preference is still art-related even if it's a job outside the home.

Yes, and I have to choose one that won't be away from my family. I always consider the place of assignment. My family is important.

You should know the environment over there before making a decision to move. I think your friend might chose the US, it's more practical but expensive.

I've been to South America twice on vacations. It is a beautiful continent, but nothing as wonderful as the USA. I've never worked anywhere except in the US, because I had a career that paid well and now pays very well for my retirement.

One should be well qualified to get so many offers. I would prefer to go to a stable country as a family person. However, I have taken risks along the way but I did not have more than one job offer! siva

I'd choose the one that pays well. If I'll be away that far then I won't settle less.

Why do you prefer Central than South or North? I tried my luck - I applied for a job in SG but did not get any call back from the employers.

I would choose north American, surely the salaries are higher and the situation in Central American is pretty hot.
