It's hotter outside you than inside you

I grew up where things could get pretty hot in the summer (and cold in the winter.) When it would get above body temperature, my science teacher would say, "Wow, it's now hotter outside you than it is inside you." Today, for the first time this year in Tokyo, it's going to be hotter outside me than inside me. It's supposed to go up to 38C. I know that is not bad for other parts of the world, but it's really humid too. I got up at 5:30 and at 6:45 rode my bike for over a mile to my friends' house to water her plants (she's gone) and now (at 7:55) it's already so hot that I'm seriously wondering about my other plan (go to the grocery before it gets too hot.) I hate to turn on the air conditioning but it's going to happen soon! Do you like and appreciate air conditioning? Or does it make you feel a bit funny? I know a lot of older Japanese people sneeze when they get in the air conditioning. Have a great day, afternoon or night!

i sometimes sneeze when i enter an air-conditioned room, coming from outside that is extremely hot. i guess the sudden change in temperature shifts our temperature-regulating center from hot to cold and our blood vessels might react slowly of abruptly.

this is what i like about mylot. other people from other places can share they experience the same thing, so now i know sneezing does happen. when i come out from an air-conditioned building into the street, people would ask me what's on my chest, if i scratched it or have an allergy because it turns red.

@hereandthere I knew a Japanese lady who has to cover her body completely in air conditioning (even her face) or she gets a rash.

Wow! Is it so hot in Tokyo now? I went back to my city on Sunday night. When we were in Tokyo, the temperature was nice. It was about 23-26 degrees and we felt comfortable when we had a tour outdoor. Here it is hot and it is about 36 degrees. Many people turn on the air conditioners. As to me, I don't like it so cold, so I will not set the temperature so low. Sometimes I even prefer to have the fan because I will not feel cold and it is also very environmental.

@petatonicsca We went to Tsukiji Fish Market at the first day. Hard to believe there was a fire accident there a few days later.

Yes, that is why we are all melting. It hasn't been this hot yet this year. I think it is the tail end of the typhoon that went north of us. Usually after a typhoon we have very hot weather. You're lucky the typhoon missed us-- it was really pleasant when you were here.

I have air conditioning here but use it as little as possible due to bill. I am so sorry it is so very hot there..how is it today Denise? I prefer a fan to air conditioner. You are hotter in temperature there than we are here right now..it is very cool at the moment after a huge hail storm!!! Stay cool my friend. Did you turn on the air conditioning in the end?

I try not to use AC, but when it gets very humid I do. My house retains heat during the summer months especially upstairs when the heat rises, so it gets sweltering in that part of the house.

Yes, I usually start trying to use the dehumidifier only, but when it is too hot outside I have to add the AC part. Today I am using AC.
