Actor Haruo Nakajima who was the first actor to play the role of the science fiction creature Godzilla passed away on Monday in his native Japan of pneumonia at the age of 88 years. I remember seeing the "Godzilla" movies on television in Panama on Friday late night movies that were called "The Zero Hour". I always thought that Godzilla was a figurine that you can get from cereal boxes that was used as the main character in the science fiction movies but I never knew that Nakajima wore a rubber suit to play the role of a creature whose origin was in the Pacific Ocean when the atomic age began. Nakajima was very grateful that director Ishiro Honda cast him to play the historical role that made him famous. Nakajima expressed no regrets playing the legendary character who is famous to this day. I remember one motivational speaker whose name I forget saying when people get angry "They act like Godzilla getting ready to destroy Toyko when he walked down the street and knocked over buildings.

To be honest with you, I never heard of the late Haruo Nakajima much less the actors who played the Ultraman characters.

I never thought about someone in a Godzilla suit. I thought it was primitive stop motion animation.

Me too. My late mom thought it was a figurine that you can get from a cereal box.

Heard this on the news. Sad indeed. One of the more iconic roles an actor could play... Godzilla, Godzilla!
