Microsoft Updates Are Ruining My Online Experience

Why Do Windows updates have to be such a traumatic situation? Last time I had an issue with my CD player. It disappeared. I had been using it ever since I got this laptop. Then one day I go to watch a movie on my laptop and it is gone. I chatted with Microsoft and the tech was able to upload a player to my laptop for me. I was so relieved. Now, today, I go and click on the Chrome browser icon on my task bar and it comes up but is black. A notification tells me it has crashed. So I used Microsoft Edge for awhile. ME is SOOOO slow. I time out on Mylot constantly and most things take forever to come up. And, I don't have the spell checker on there like I do on Chrome. That is a no no for me cause I have a problem spelling some words now days. Then I decided to power off and come back on and see if I could alleviate this problem Sure enough I had Microsoft updates and when they were done I was able to log on and go right to my Chrome browser as usual. I am hating Microsoft updates. They are ruining my online experience.

Thats why I have a chromebook not a windows computer..there is never any of these problems. Sorry it is doing all these updates. The chromebook was $160 4 yrs ago. My old Windows 7 laptop was doing the same thing yours is with all the constant updates and is still doing them now. I don´t use it only for printing.

This is the only problem I have so far with this Dell laptop and have had it about four years now. I remember you talking about this Chromebook. Interesting.

@celticeagle It is so convenient I tell you such a relief not to have to fool with updates. It does update but does it instantly when you restart it...done, you dont have to wait.

I'm sorry that's happening. I get notified about the updates, but they don't update automatically until I shut down the computer.

@celticeagle I'll get a box in the bottom right corner and it will tell me updates are ready and would update outside my usage time unless I marked it that I wanted the update right then. I like that better as it used to be I had a 15 minute timer that said it was going to update. I would be in the middle of something and need to hurry and get it finished, if I was almost done, or just log out so it could do the update and then log back on when it was complete. That was annoying. I like it so much better this way.

Not fun at all. No way of knowing what you are getting or what it is going to do. We are at Microsoft's mercy basically.

You can always turn them off. Or you can schedule them for 1 day a week at a certain time. You don't need to let them run all the time.

My windows 10 doesn't seem to have that many updates but I don't really use it that much because I usually use my phone for most of my activities.

Updates can be a real pain these days, especially when they reconfigure some settings.

I don't have the updates issue as I choose not to have automatic updates. However, I do find chrome can be a problem at times.

I am beginning to dislike the updates myself. I am also timing out on MyLot since my last update.

I had to use Microsoft Edge for awhile yesterday and it causes Mylot to timeout. No problem when I use Chrome.

I feel the same way. Microsoft focuses too much on their personal interest at the expense of user experience.
