She Prefers a Three-Dog Night Over the Dog Days of Summer
August 11, 2017 12:46pm CST
Poor Molly. During the summer months, Molly spends the majority of her time sleeping on the cool stone tiles in the bathroom. Molly is a mutt. A Chow Chow/Shepherd she is. She has a double coat of fur. Her top coat and undercoat of fur actually insulate her from heat and protect her skin from sunburn. Removing as much of the undercoat as possible, which was done last week for Molly by our groomer, does keep her a bit cooler. Molly definitely prefers a three-dog night over the dog days of summer. A three-dog-night is so cold you would need three dogs in bed with you to keep warm. The dog days of summer are a period marked by inactivity, lethargy or indolence due to heat. Right now, from her bathroom spot, Molly is dreaming of the coming of the three-dog nights we have in our area during the winter months and cursing the dog days of summer. Those three-dog nights are coming soon, dear Molly!!!

I feel like we're going to have an early fall, the weather has really turned cool this past week or so. But the forecast is for a warm autumn. I'm sure that Molly would prefer what I think is going to happen, we'll have to wait and see what we get.

Yes, dogs with think coats should not be shaved since doing so removes their insulation. Molly has an air conditioned house too, but she picked the cool stone tiles in the bathroom as the best place in the house in which to stay nice and cool.

@Corbin5 I was just on the weather site and there was an article - I didn't read it - that somewhere in the US is getting an early substantial snowfall this weekend. Now that's crazy. I expect it's in the mountains somewhere.

@Susan2015 I wish Molly would go into our delightfully cool basement but she is afraid of the stairs. She is too heavy at 50 pounds for me to carry her down the stairs. She would probably freak out at being carried down too.
