Two Weeks is Too Long to Live Like This

We're on day three since our air conditioner went out, and we are miserable. My parents loaned us several fans and a water cooler, which help a tiny bit in the evening when the outside temperature cools down. But in the daytime when it's hitting close to 100 degrees? All those fans do is blow hot air. The rental company said it would be at least a couple weeks until someone comes out to fix the air customer. That is just unacceptable. One of us is going to wind up suffering a heat stroke. It's so hot in here we can't use our computers as they overheat. I work from home and not being able to use my computer is causing me to lose money. Basically all we can do is lay in front of the fans doing nothing. Our apartment does not have windows that can support a window AC unit. We are on the second floor and all the units we've looked at need to be shut in a window that opens up and down, not sliding sideways. There's no way we can prop one up on something outside the window since we're on the second floor, and we have no way to secure it from above on the outside. Otherwise we would just install a window unit, even temporarily. I am going to call the rental company again on Monday and let them know this is unacceptable. We rented an apartment with central air; they cannot let us live here under these conditions in the middle of summer when the temperatures are nearing the triple digits.

You are right, the apartment is rented so THEY must offer the service. Tell them that you will not pay the rent if they do not fix the problem, you rented a place with A/C, so they are those who are not respecting the rental contract.

I feel for you. We've had 10 days or so of temps in the high 90s and low 100s. We also have central air. I sure wish you could a way to get a decent apartment. That's just miserable.

three days is unacceptable! They should be out there on day 2. Call and tell them you feel like you are having a heat stroke and you may have to go to the e.r. and they will pay the bill.

With those kind of temperatures - and you live in an apartment , I can imagine how miserable it is.
