I read a post a couple days ago about a challenge of events happening the year you are born. Below is 1953.
Birth Year Challenge
I was born in 1953, which was an interesting year for what happened that year. A lot happened, so I’m going to give the highlights by month.
January –
7 – President Truman announces the US has developed hydrogen bomb.
14 – Marshal Josip Broz Tito is chosen President of Yugoslavia
CIA sponsored Robertson Panel to discuss UFO phenomenon
19 – 71.1% of US households tune their TV’s to watch I Love Lucy give birth to Little Ricky, more than tuned into the inauguration of Dwight D. Eisenhower the next day.
20 – President Eisenhower sworn in as 34th President of the US
February –
5 – Walt Disney’s feature film, Peter Pan, premieres.
11 – President Eisenhower refuses clemency for Ethel and Julius Rosenberg.
Soviet Union breaks diplomatic relations with Israel.
28 – James Watson and Francis Crick of the University of Cambridge announce structure of DNA molecule.
Greece, Turkey, and Yugoslavia sign Balkan Pact.
March –
1 – Joseph Stalin suffered stroke at all-night dinner with future premiers. Died March 5th.
14 – Nikita Khrushchev is selected First Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party.
17 – First test of the nuclear bomb tested in Nevada.
26 – Jonas Salk announced Polio Vaccine.
April –

German football team SG Dynamo Dresden founded.
17 – Mickey Mantle hits 565 ft (172 m) home run at Griffith Stadium in Washington D.C. – believed to be the longest home run in history.

June –
2 – Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey.
19 – Ethel and Julius Rosenberg executed in Sing Sing Prison for acts of espionage.
30 – First roll on/roll off crosses English Channel – Dover – Boulogne.
July –
3 – First ascent of Nanga Parbat in the Pakistan Himalayas, world’s ninth largest mountain, made by Austrian climber – Hermann Buhl alone.
5 – EEC holds first assembly in Strasbourg, France.
