A shot I took of the Franklin Mountains many years ago

Yeah, I really did jump this morning when a really loud thunder clap blasted above my mobile home at about 5am Had I been awake it wouldn't have bothered me but that's no way to wake up ....... I think I might have been having a good dream for once but now I can't remember Well, it rained really hard from just before 5am til about 5:30am then seemed to calm down but it's been sprinklin since then and just a few minutes ago it start to rain lightly again but now it's calm again. I found a shot I took of the Franklin Mountains years ago, I was heading home from Las Cruces so the camera is facing east. The mountain ranges are really long in these here parts with small breaks between the ranges, this area has also been developed since I took this shot. Progress? Not really, more like destruction. These have more color to them then the Organs do.

I got up three times last night checking if the shutters were all closed. It rained so hard that I feared the water was coming inside.

I don't think it rained before this morning here when it woke me up but we did get quite a lot of rain. It's still raining a little bit off and on which is nice because now I do not have to water so my bill will be small.

I guess you know we can always use rain so I am not complaining about that aspect @LadyDuck however I did not like being awakened with that kind of thunder. It is cool here as well which is really odd for August.

Loud sudden noises tend to make me jump, too. There was a sever weather warning including possible tornadoes issued yesterday evening, but I didn't recognize the area they specified. It did rain here last night, and I was vaguely aware of lightning at one point, but it didn't really disturb my sleep. There wasn't any mention of tornadoes on the morning news.

@rebelann On a later newscast, there was something about two possible tornadoes last night, but again, I wasn't paying too much attention, so don't know where they touched down. Not in my yard, anyway.

I've lived here since 1959 and have never even heard of a tornado warning around here @BarBaraPrz

What a way to be awoken that early in the morning. That thunder can catch a person off guard. I am glad that you got some rain. We got some last night too. Love those mountains.

@rebelann It is sad what people are doing to the land. Beauty that we are used to is slowing going away.

Yeah, hopefully it won't happen again. Thank you, if only they hadn't developed the foothills in front of those mountains, I'll never get another shot like this one.

That's a great photo. I usually like thunderstorms but if they are directly overhead they are really scary.

Thank you Living at the midway point of a foot hill has it's moments, if we get storm clouds they usually hang lower and seem so much closer to the rooftops.

Development is inevitable. People have to be housed somewhere.

I'm thinking we could build differently so as not to destroy so much wild habitat.
