A Way of Giving The Last Respect for the Dead

Here in the Philipines, the Catholics would have about 3-5 days of wake or vigil of their dead either at home or at the funeral parlor.
Last Sunday, the burial of my hubby’s cousin in Bataan, was different since they are of a different religion.
The wakes don’t have a mass offered everyday as told by the child of the dead when I asked her.
From the house where the wake was, the dead were carried to the cemetery and buried. A snack was served while the dead’s tomb was being sealed then, after that, we all went home.
With us, there will be a 9-day prayer meeting for the dead after the burial. Masses will be done at the wake and eulogies at the mass will also be said by those close to the dead in the church before we finally bury the dead at the cemetery.
Foods will later be served at the house of the family after the burial.
After that, a 9-day prayer meeting will be held for the dead at the house of the family of the dead. At the last day, foods will be served for the attendees, a bit more than at the everyday 9-day prayer meeting.
What about you guys? Any traditions on how the dead are buried and given a vigil?

@hereandthere I am also not sure about it. Actually, I haven't attended any yet just only the last part where there are some foods prepared for everyone to partake.

We don't vigil for 9 days. We have mass on the day of the burial.

@jobelbojel Oh, I see, just like my sister and her family.
So, the born again Christian also have mass during the wakes and on the day of the burial?

My mom does it with her friends in their christian organization. Yeah it's the usual tradition by Catholics.
